Yes but you can move it back
Sam
Will give it a try.
But I just brought the other Vero in and tried it, why I didn’t think of trying this earlier I don’t know, and it worked fine. Played the jelly fish file, a little stutter at first then smoothly, played some of the other 4k samples, and played the last jedi.
So problem clearly specific to the one box I have that’s usually connected to 4k TV.
Will do the moving the Kodi folder thing when I get a chance.
Thanks.
Moved the /.Kodi directory, rebooted, and yes, it worked.
So I started to move everything back, one folder at a time, until it stopped working.
After many iterations, I’ve narrowed it down to my guisettings.xml file in my userdata folder.
I have copied the contents of the guisettings.xml file to here: http://paste.osmc.io/ijaseroxeg.xml
So… what is it in there that is messing things up?!
And another query, while I’m here. With the troublesome guisettings.xml file removed, I’m playing the 4k samples to check they are working, and they are playing, however, when I press the ‘i’ button on my TV remote it is saying that the screen is on 1080p/60Hz… So is the 4k file being downscaled in kodi to output to the TV a 1080p signal? I also get a black screen if in the system settings I change the kodi resolution to 3840x2160p. This was at all the refresh rates I tried, which was most of them.
Does this mean I’m not actually seeing a 4k image?
And more updates…
Started to adjust all my settings back to how I wanted them, checking the 4k files played after each change.
It was when I changed the “adjust display refresh rate” setting to “always” or “on start/stop” that the 4k files stopped working and I got the black screen of nothing. When this setting was set at “off”, the 4k files played.
Just curious, as I’ve been reading other threads, it appears I need the “adjust display refresh rate” on to get the TV to switch to 4k resolution when viewing a 4k file, but when it is on, I get the black screen. With it off, I’m getting the display saying it is 1080p/60Hz, but it plays the 4k files. Setting the Gui resolution to 4k, I get the black screen.
Could this be as simple as an HDMI cable not supporting 4k signals issue?! I’m pretty sure I’m using the cable that came with the Vero.

I’d suggest:
I’m happy to use the default guisettings.xml and not use the previous version.
Don’t know if you saw all the other comments i made above identifying that it’s the “adjust display refresh rate” option that was causing the issue? And seemingly not getting a 4k signal sent to the TV? With both veros the TV stated 1080p 60hz when viewing the 4k files, which is what the GUI resolution is set at. I get the black screen trying to view the GUI at 4k resolution.
Could it be the HDMI cable? Going to see if I’ve got any other cables I can try, but no idea if any I’ve got a 4k compliant.
Trying another HDMI cable certainly wouldn’t help.

Well… after all that, it was the HDMI cable.
Switched it with my other Vero’s HDMI cable, and now it all worked.
Sometimes it’s the simplest of things!
So, looking back at the original problem I had at the start of this thread, where Rogue One used to work, but then stopped, that is almost certainly because I must have changed the “adjust display refresh rate” setting from off to one of the “on” settings, and as that then tried to display it in 4k, which the cable couldn’t do… black screen.
But with that option off, the 4k stuff that appeared to be working, was being downscaled to 1080p.
Thankfully, working cable and it correctly displays as 2160p.
Unfortunately, my local network isn’t fast enough to stream the higher bitrate stuff smoothly from my server… which is damn annoying. But at least I can view 4k stuff properly now.
Feel free to lock this thread now if you want.
I’m glad to hear the problem and solution were so simple, even if it did take a bit of time to work it all out.
