5.1 audio direct to Logitech z-series surround

…what would be the best/most cost effective way to accomplish this? Ultimately I would prefer a GPIO solution over USB, but all I’m seeing are DACs intended to be fed into a home theatre amplifier.

At this point I’m mostly convinced that my only path will be to settle for a USB sound adapter and call it best I’m gonna get.

FWIW- Intended purpose: RaspPi + Touchscreen + old network router + hard drive + 5.1 + OSMC = portable audio system. fill the hard drive with music I’ve re-encoded for multi-channel, touchscreen / router & smart phone for control.

Trying to be brief to avoid a wall o’ text. questions… just ask.

Only one gpio pin could be used as dac output. And it already is. Internally.

So if you want discrete analog outputs, the only way is to get an external 5.1 decoder.

A better option would be to feed a digital hdmi/spdif signal to a system that can decode it itself. But most of the cheap/old logitech systems can’t as they are built to be used with a computer that decodes multichannel audio on board.

So get a compatible 5.1 usb decoder (soundcard)
