5.1 noise RP2

Hi all, I know this is not a new issue, however I was not able to find proper solution to my 5.1 audio problem so far, so I am a bit desperate ;). Recently I have upgraded from rp1 to rp2 and just can’t get ac3 5.1 pass-through to work.

5.1 AC3 pass-through works perfect with audio settings on RP1:

RPI 1

audio HDMI
output configuration - best match
speakers 2.1
stereo upmix - disabled
normalize levels on downmix - disabled
resample quality - gpu accelerated.
keep audio - 1 min
enable pass-through:
ac3 compatible receiver - ENABLE
ac3 + - Enable
DTS - disabled

RP2
the problem is that those settings don’t work with RP2
When I play ac3 5.1 content all I hear is loud noise.
when I disable ac3 comp. receiver but keep ac3 plus enabled, Audio works fine but only with 2 speakers and its a bit quiet

does anyone know any solution? maybe I need to change something in confg file?
I tried all different audio configs.
RP2 is a great update but without working ac3 5.1 is useless :frowning:
I would appreciate any help.
kind regards
Bart

Are you connected to an AV Receiver that supports AC3 ? Or directly to a TV ?

Have you tried enabling Omxplayer ? It is on by default on a Pi 1 but off by default on a Pi 2 - that’s the only relevant difference in default settings between the two systems.

DBMandrake thanks it worked!
so just to clarify, settings I used:

settings --> video --> acceleration

  • allow hardware acceleration OMXPlayer - ENABLED
  • allow hardware acceleration MMAL - DISABLED

settings–>audio
audio HDMI
output configuration - best match
speakers 2.1
stereo upmix - disabled
normalize levels on downmix - disabled
resample quality - gpu accelerated.
keep audio - 1 min
enable pass-through:
ac3 compatible receiver - ENABLE
ac3 + - Enable
DTS - disabled
