Arising problems with Vero 4k+, freezes, sad face, stutter

Hello,

for some months I’m having more and more problems with my Vero 4k+. I’m not sure but it seems like this started with the last and final update (excluding the hotfix).

First I noticed that sad face became more frequent, in practice if I ever try to rebuild a library or add a TV show with dozens of episodes it ends in a sad face.

Then some sudden freezes came from nowhere while playing video. It happened several times while watching an episode for 20-30 minutes. Video freezes, audio buffer keeps playing repeatedly and no sad face only power cycling helps.

Now I try to play some concert videos, one is h.264 1080p 3-6 Mbps, it is completely unplayable, video plays at 2 fps, audio plays normal then stops, resync, and so on. Other is VC-1 1080p, it starts out of sync, stutters heavily, then after 5-10 secs of struggling and resyncing it plays ok. Also I have some SD (DVD) videos which stutter badly to unplayable level.

I tried every single setting one by one (including HDMI HPD) regarding video playback, audio playback, network, buffering, nothing changed.

I’m playing these from a PC based NAS off of a 20TB Exos, network is all wired 1000Base-TX, all files play just fine on my PC with MPC-BE.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Can you post a log so we can see what is going on?
You may wish to install the latest version of OSMC from Download - OSMC and start fresh.

Many thanks

Sam

Will do, thanks. From My OSMC to an USB drive?

I uploaded the log from My OSMC to https://paste.osmc.tv/acibutanir

Is this ok to examine?

Please enable debug logging.
What happens if you disable whitelisting?

Sam

I enabled debog logging and started testing. Navigating to the problematic video instantly gave me a sad face, not when starting playback just entering the folder containing the video.

Anyways I disabled whitelisting and it seems that we’re making some progress.

The video ‘Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra - New Year’s Concert 2018 422’ still does not play, 2 fps, out of sync and debug overlay show near 100% load on all 4 CPU cores.

Other problematic videos started to play fine.

‘The 25th Anniversary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Concerts Mkv 1080p Dts Hd’ starts in-sync and no stutter at all.

Same happens with my ‘Pawn Stars’ episodes which also started playing out-of-sync before.

I tried one of my unplayable SD (DVD) video and it also plays fine now.

Originally all the resolutions were whitelisted my TV can display, now none of them are whitelisted but the TV still switches to the correct mode. I don’t really get how this works inside Kodi, by my logic if there are no whitelisted modes I could not play anything but anyways this is something.

Further testing needed, I have to see if general stability is restored and that one concert video still does not play but this is a step forward.

I uploaded the log to https://paste.osmc.tv/ufuyuyenef

Neujahrskonzert der Wiener Philharmoniker 2018 [tt7811816]/Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra - New Year’s Concert 2018 422.mkv’:

This file is not supported by the hardware decoder, which is why it does not play back properly. It would never be supported by this device, so won’t be an issue with a recent update.

True, I’ve never tried to play this particular video before so it is not connected with any update. I connected the update to other problems but not for sure, just a thought. Anyways thanks for the help, what do you think, stability problems (sad faces even on the GUI, freezes) may be solved now that I disabled whitelisting?

I’m also curious about how the ‘whitelisting all’ and ‘whitelisting none’ state differs in Kodi internal workings? Could you explain?

Also curios about why this video is not supported? As I see it’s a h.264 AVC High@L4 4:2:2 1080p - looks nothing special at first sight. How should I transcode it for OSMC?

This format isn’t supported by many devices
