Just stopped a movie, all i have now is a black screen if i press buttons on the remote i can here the sounds the buttons make
Tried a reboot through putty but no joy
Anyone know how to sort this out?

I just changed the hdmi cable to a direct to tv one and changed back to av, all seems to have sorted itself out

Nothing is wrong – but you should change the GUI to 1080p instead of having it at 4K. Then enable Adjust Refresh Rate.

when i set it to 1080p in gui everything gets played back at native resolution 1080p stuff doesn’t upscale
Because you have Adjust Refresh Rate off.
If you set this, we will switch to 4K when you play 4K content.
1080p is not upscaled to 4K regardless.
We recommend people with 4K TV’s set their user interface (UI) to 1080p. Kodi’s UI is not optimized for 4K yet and this can put unnecessary demands on your device and can lead to a suboptimal picture quality, as well as potentially cause other issues.
The settings we recommend are as follows…
Settings>System>Display>Resolution> 1920x1080p
Settings>System>Display>Whitelist> (empty)
Settings>Player>Videos>Adjust display refresh rate> On start/stop
Some televisions may also need, or benefit from, the following being set…
System>Display>Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling> (enable)
With the above settings your UI will be output in Full HD and your 4K content will be output in 4K. If you have any doubt, feel free to upload some logs so we can verify that your settings are indeed correct.
