Blackout while reading video

I have a RPi4 with OSMC installed, it’s now almost 2 years it was running just fine, I have upgrade it over the time with a 3A USB HUB, to be able to drive 2 HDD (2To full and 4To mid full).

Starting yesterday, it started to blackout during videos at always the same time on the videos. First I thought the video had codec issues, so I checked by downloading through FTP the video locally, and it was running fine, re-encoding it didn’t changed anything too. I started to check on multiple video files, and it was all the same, at a given time (different from a video to another) in the video, it will blackout video and sound.

I ran hdparm command to check the HDD if it had error, both HDD were fine with 110-120 MB/sec speed reading and no errors. Rebooting and clearing kodi cache didn’t work.

The log didn’t show anything obvious for me. I was finally able to get it to work again, by turning off the RPi, unplug every device, include the USB Hub, cut the power too, and wait 15-20sec. Then when booting again, the video were just playing good again.

I was wondering if someone have any ideas of what happened and how I could prevent it. Here the logs when a cut happened. Basically I cleared the log before launching the video and then stop as quickly once it blackout and read the log:

So this has only happened once? If that is the case then it isn’t probably worth bothering thinking about. It is expected to get the odd error here and there with consumer grade hardware. Perhaps it was a cosmic ray bit flip. If it kept happening then it would likely be the power supply going out of spec.

When it happened, it happened constantly for each videos until I did the hard power reset.

It is possible that the power supplies of either the RPi or USB Hub is going out of spec. Can’t deny that. Was just wondering is someone got the issue too.
