Brandnew Vero V showing only black screen with Sony TV

Hi there

Just received my brand new Vero V. I cannot get it to work with my Sony XR65A90J. The TV is NOT showing “no signal”, but just a black screen. I don’t even see Vero booting up. I did manage to connect via SSH just fine.
Things I tried:

  • Vero V:
    • Works just fine connected to my pc monitor
    • Updated everything with sudo apt update and sudo apt dist-upgrade.
    • Rebooted both Vero and the TV numerous times.
    • sudo fw_setenv hdmimode 1080p60hzforceand sudo fw_setenv outputmode 1080p60hzforce then reboot. But set them back to the default values now
  • TV
    • Different HDMI cabel
    • Different HDMI ports on the TV
    • BRAVIA Sync off and on
    • HDMI signal format: “Optimized Format” and “Standard Format”

I am at a complete loss :frowning: . Any help is much appreciated

Tried re-installing OSMC from scratch, did not help

TV got the latest firmware?
Did you do a full power cycle (remove TV from power for a couple of minutes)?

Hi, I compared the kernel ‘hdmitx:’ messages with a test VeroV here connected to a 4k monitor … and at a glance don’t see any significant differences. It should give you a picture with 1920x1080 resolution at 60 Hz.

That’s very suspicious. Since the VeroV is working on another hdmi display, now my probing question: Is there any other device working at your Sony TV hdmi ports using FHD resolution?

Many thanks for going through that giant log!

No, there’s not. I’m using a Revox soundbar connected via HDMI, but have already unsuccessfully tried using the Vero with Revox completely disconnected

I seem to have fixed it. I had to disconnect an external USB hard drive connected to the TV of all things :-(((. Thanks for all your help!

Interesting. Was the HDD externally powered?

No, was powered via USB
