Bright flash every now and then

Vero 4k - Latest OSMC via “apt full-upgrade”

Watching 1080p x265 content mainly and i get an all screen flash of bright colour… it’s been green in the past but last night it was yellow…

There is nothign consistent about when it happens… it might only be once in an evening… it might be once per episode of whatever i’m watching.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

You shouldn’t use that but sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

While it might be a HDMI cable issue. But debug logs may tell us if something else causes it.

See, debug logs are going to be a pain to get, as i don’t know when it’s going to do it… But i’ll try.

Maybe try different cable and proper upgrade first.
You also can enable debug logs with out onscreen overlay so you can enable them and just upload logs after it happen

I’ll try a different cable…
I’ve just tried the dist-upgrade but got

root@osmc:/home/osmc# apt dist-upgrade

The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
  vero364-image-3.14.29-61-osmc:arm64
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove it.

I’ll log at enabling the logs later this evening when i’m home… thanks

When this happens, can you recover by pressing stop?
As in, how do you get past this when it happens?

Sam

Hi Sam, Sorry… I don’t need to do anything… it doesn’t affect playback in the slightest… it’s just a momentary flash

Is it only with one series / type of content?

Sam

All i know is that it happens with atleast 1080p x265 content…

It’s just done it… this time it was purple… i didn’t have the logging going unfortunately… i’ll turn it on.

How do i enable debug but without the text on the screen?

Thank you

So this is the kodi.log from whilst it happened… I’m pretty sure there’s nothing out of the ordinary in it :

A whole system log would be helpful, as decoder issues can also present in the kernel log.
The Kodi log seems to be a snippet, so nothing obvious there I’m afraid.

Sam

I’ve been running the log for a few days so apologies for the size :

You can close this down… Turns out it’s a bug on my TV

Sorry for not updating you – I could not reproduce.

What make and model TV do you have? How did you find out it’s a problem with your TV?

Sam

Hi Sam,

It’s a Samsung UE55MU6400 and i found out as i came across this forum post :

https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/tv/highlight/false/page/1/thread-id/29628

Apparently there is a new firmware coming today which supposedly fixes the issue… (We’ll see though)
