Canakit Wifi dongle works with Raspian, but not OSMC

I have the Raspberry Pi 2 purchased with the Canakit bundle that included the Wifi USB dongle. Wifi works very well with the Raspian OS also included with the Canakit bundle on their 8GB SD card. I believe the Wifi chipset is Railink RT5370. All my hardware and software is the latest for June, 2015.

I changed to the OSMC RC3 OS and the same Wifi USB dongle is dead as a door nail, no LED activity, no wireless connection. I tried all the tips and tricks including putting the dongle at the end of a 30 inch USB cable, but no luck. I’m guessing the OSMC does not support this hardware since the same hardware works with Raspian.

Does anybody have Wifi working with OSMC? I know Linux quite well but can’t find any way to get a Terminal / CLI working on OSMC like I have with Raspian, so I really can’t troubleshoot. I’m willing to buy another dongle but cannot find a list of Wifi hardware that is supported by OSMC either. Any ideas from anyone?

Upload the output of dmesg and I should be able to add support for it.

Sam

It would also be helpful if you could upload the dmesg from your Raspbian install (to paste.osmc.io) - this will tell us exactly what driver Raspbian is using to support it as well as the vendor id and product id.

There are numerous ways to log into a terminal session in RC3, please see the wiki page in our help section:

This is my dmesg output from the Raspberry Pi 2 running OSMC RC3.

The wireless dongle that does not work is the one that was supplied with my CanaKit. As I said, it works with Raspian, but not with OSMC. Here is the syslog when I plug the wireless dongle into a Desktop computer (not the Raspberry) to identify it:

Thanks for any help.

I also have the Canakit bundle that includes the Wifi USB dongle, but mine is a Pi 1, B+. My wifi works with OSMC, but I had to type the password in several times before it worked. Just another data point.

In my particular case, had to reboot the device even though password entered properly in OSMC. Afterwards, was able to work properly.
