Choppy Playback on brand new Vero 4k+

I am playing the following video format and the file is essentially unwatchable, the screen basically refreshes every second or two. Audio is perfect and flawless, it is on the visual that is stuttering:

Videos are playing over NFSv3 mount in the OS (fstab), not a caching problem again since the 4k video plays without any issues whatsoever.

Could you post a log please. Enable debug logging, reboot twice, play the problem video until the issue shows itself, stop the video, then upload full logs.

It would be much more helpful if you had uploaded FULL logs so we could see what settings you are using. Are you using sync playback to display or did you change any of the player settings from default? I would recommend you try setting the following…

We recommend people with 4K TV’s set their user interface (UI) to 1080p. Kodi’s UI is not optimized for 4K yet and this can put unnecessary demands on your device and can lead to a suboptimal picture quality, as well as potentially cause other issues.

The settings we recommend are as follows…

Settings>System>Display>Resolution> 1920x1080p
Settings>System>Display>Whitelist> (empty)
Settings>Player>Videos>Adjust display refresh rate> On start/stop
Settings>Player>Videos>Sync playback to display> (disabled)

Some televisions may also need, or benefit from, the following being set…

System>Display>Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling> (enable)

With the above settings your UI will be output in Full HD and your 4K content will be output in 4K. If you have any doubt, feel free to upload some logs so we can verify that your settings are indeed correct.

I have all of those settings properly set, including trying with both: System>Display>Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling> (enable) and System>Display>Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling> (disabled) it’s still occurring.

I retrieved the logs (the full file) from ~/.kodi/temp/kodi.log (I just scrubbed some filenames and IMDB links) is there another file that would include my settings that I’m missing?

You should test your network with iperf3 and report findings.

Your file ‘PROBLEMVIDEO.mkv’ is not encoded correctly. The frame rate doesn’t match the container. Remuxing with a tool like mkvtoolnix might help. If you send a sample I can take a look at it, but I’m not sure if it’s a problem on our side.

As an aside, you installed nginx, but Kodi is probably using Port 80 for it’s web server, so you’ll need to fix that to complete the nginx installation.

Nice catch with nginx, I do move that over to a different port. I checked my other Vero 4K+ and it’s happening on all of them, but it’s working properly on my pi3 also running osmc.

What would be the best way to provide a sample of the video to you?

As suggested, you may want to first try remuxing it with mkvtoolnix first and see if your issue goes away.
