Control Vero5 over bluetooth - how to pair - SOLVED! šŸ˜Š

OK, Iā€™ve just set up my new Vero 5 and I want to control it over Bluetooth from my Harmony Elite, as I did with my original Vero.

I added it to the Harmony as a windows PC, and the harmony tried to pair but I cannot for the life of me find where to set up a bluetooth keyboard in OSMC or Kodi.

I think Iā€™ve looked everywhere but I must have missed it - please could someone point me at the right place? Iā€™ve searched the forum but I can only find details on adding IR remotes

Many thanks,

Belay that - Iā€™d assumed that the Vero5 had BT built in! Once I plugged in a dongle it all came back to me!

Senior moment, Iā€™m afraid.

The Vero V does have BT built in. If Iā€™m remembering correctly the Harmony code for Windows PC is a IR MCE setup which would work with the built-in IR receiver of the Veroā€™s if you went into the My OSMC add-onā€™s remote section and configured it as such. This is a bit less optimal setup if your remote is capable of doing BT though. I think the procedure you need to follow is adding a OSMC Vero device in the harmony software (which is configured for BT), followed by going into the My OSMC add-onā€™s networking section and pairing the Harmony remote to the Vero.

If you needed more details a search of this forum should find others asking and answering about connecting the two via BT.

Hmm, all I get when I add a Vero4k entertainment device (there is no Vero5 option) is a message that it does not support IR so cannot be controlled by the hub.

I donā€™t seem to have an add-ons option at the MyOSMC screen.

Right, that device configuration in the Harmony database is for having the remote connect via Bluetooth. The hub is an IR blaster that connects to the remote so it doesnā€™t come into play for a device that is being controlled only with Bluetooth.

ā€œMy OSMCā€ is an add-on. When you open My OSMC there is a section for networking and in there a section for Bluetooth where you can enable it, turn on discovery, and pair devices.

AH - you mean an add on from Kodiā€™s point of view, but as My OSMC is installed on the vero by default I didnā€™t realise thatā€™s what you meant - I though you mean another add-on installed via My OSMC!

Whatever I try, I canā€™t get the Harmony to try to pair with the OSMC Vero device, though it pairs fine as a MS Media Player.

As it all works as I have it I wonā€™t be messing with it.
Thanks.

Dave, I too have the Harmony Elite and have it successfully paired with both the 4K+ and the V using Microsoft Media Player (Microsoft KODI) as the device. Using this configuration I have not found many commands missing on the remote. Those I thought helpful, I remapped unused keys.

The reason for the suggestion to configure it via bluetooth wasnā€™t because of optimal default button configuration, but rather because it is significantly more responsive and does not require line of sight.

Yes, thatā€™s how I have set it up.
The issue was trying to add it as an ā€œOSMC Veroā€ device, rather than a ā€œMicrosoft Kodiā€ device.
It works fine as the MS Kodi device, as it did on my original Vero4.

Are Logitech still accepting submissions to their remote database since they stopped making Harmonyā€™s? Maybe we could update our profile.

I donā€™t think this is needed. We donā€™t have some special LIRC IR layout specific to OSMC so on that front it is pick in My Harmony what you pick in My OSMC. The MCE and XBox layouts line up really well with default Kodi keymaps.

The Harmony db already has a Vero option that configures the remote for Bluetooth which I think is the advantageous bit as your not having to figure out layout on the Harmony side when mapping as a generic Bluetooth keyboard. Never owned a Harmony with that capability myself but all the accounts Iā€™ve read on this forum from those that do is that once they figured out how to do the pairing the existing Harmony profile worked really well out the gate.
