DVD playback failing - raspberry pi 3

Hi all

I’m failing to play DVDs on my raspberry pi 3 - there are a number of topics in here regarding that but they seem to be inconclusive reg. solutions (and some claim it to be resolved in current releases).

I’m running the latest OSMC and have MPEG-2 license set up (and Pi config menu confirms the codec is enabled).

I can load the DVD, but activating the playback menu option an error message refering to the log (however i can’t find anything significant in the log, but i might not know what too look for).

I have also tried manually mounting the DVD and navigating to the files, that enabled me to view the language selection menu but not actually select anything.

Additionally i installed regionsset and checked that my region is correctly set to 2.

Logs are at http://paste.osmc.io/vozeyufuga

How is the drive powered?

It’s externally powered (i.e. it has it’s own supply). And Dmesg does not show any problem with over charges on USB

Now i tried some more and it appears that it can play some DVDs.

It accepts oceans twelve, but killers and 10 things i hate about you have failed so far…
Wonder what the difference is

Probably the type of encryption used by the DVD producer.
