I am looking to use an external HDD (currently NTFS) to store my ripped movies on, and everything else I have ripped and clogged my desktop up with over the years
But, when I plugged in my 2.5" Freecom drive (freshly formatted in NTFS format), nothing happened.
I was hoping to find some kind of file browser but couldn’t find anything in OSMC to browse with
I am not sure where exactly the drive is meant to be displayed, I assumed when adding the library under Videos>Files would be on the root, but I wasn’t able to find my external drive anywhere, like it isn’t being used at all.
What am I doing wrong?
You are not giving us enough info to provide any informed diagnosis. What device are you plugging into?
How is the drive powered? It’s entirely possible that the device you are connecting it to cannot provide enough power to support it and you will need a powered USB hub to handle this.
Oh, sorry.
I am running on a Raspberry 2 Model B.
I am running OSMC 20161224 build.
The drive is powered through a USB Micro type B plugged into the Raspberry Pi.
The hard drive does spin up, but if it isn’t getting enough power, I don’t think there is any way to externally power it as it only has the 1 port.
Sorry to sound like such a noob (I am) but, how do I go about finding.displaying /media?
When adding a source (library or filemanager) select Root Filesystem and /media will be on the next page. If your drive is mounted, it will be a folder named as the label set when the drive was formatted.
There is a built in file manager
http://kodi.wiki/view/File_manager
it’s accessible from the settings page
Found it, but no drive.
I have formatted in both exFAT and NTFS now but nothing, I have done this on 3 drives now.
I’m assuming I will need a powered hub for this?
Am I using the correct format, or is there some kind of custom format OSMC requires that I am missing for my drives?
EXT4 would be preferred, but if you must be able to also have the drive read on systems that may not be linux, NTFS is fine.
