Factory reset

Hi all, I am about to toss my Vero 4k out the window, because going back to factory settings is not working. I was able to do this once a while back, but now it is not working. I tried it with a micro SD, USB and same outcome. Followed every single step here: Reinstalling OSMC - Vero 4K - OSMC Held button with pin down, recovery name file etc. not working. If I don't hold the pin down I get a could not find root filesystem device /dev/vero/nand/root etc. Can someone help out because this is becoming very frustrating.

Sorry to hear this.
We will get this solved.

Can you please show us a screenshot of the contents of your SD card / USB?

Have you tried another storage device?

Well I would expect after trying via those two options it should work. Another storage is not an option, because these are the only two.

To make matters worse the needle for pushing the button fell now into the system. How can I open it and get it out?

*edit got it opened and got the needle out

I don’t recommend opening the device if you can avoid it.

When was the last time the unit was working?

It would help to have a bit more background as to when the issue arose and what happened last

Cheers

Sam

Well I had an issue with connecting to my NAS so then I wanted to go back to factory settings. So the Vero4k+ was working, but only that not.

But now after trying to get the factory reset working it no longer starts up at all and I get the could not find root error.

I have been having issues installing the installer on my usb and micro sd so I copied the files over manually. Could that be the issue?

I get this error when installing via the installer.

Formated the micro SD and get this message:

Are you running the installer as admin or root or whatever privilege escalation that macOS uses?

As admin in MacOs

I also got this error maybe 2 times in the past, but I’m on Windows.
I “fixed” this by deleting the log file and all downloaded images.

I deleted the log file and other osmc files and tried again with a different USB disc and still no go.

Here the log:

This is a known issue with macOS Catalina.
You could use another tool like Etcher or Windows for now.

We will fix the tool soon.

Well Windows is not an option, since I only have a Mac. I tried Etcher, but that is also not working. Can’t I directly put the files on a SD card or is that the main reason why it is not working?

I am now stuck with a defect mediaplayer and normally a factory reset is a matter of pushing the button, but now I am already a couple of hours trying to accomplish this for the Vero…

You shouldn’t push the button without an image as it will change the system environment. This might be why your system won’t boot anymore.

Did you attempt this without any installation media inserted?

No there was always a installation media inserted, but maybe because the files weren’t written correctly that might be the issue. But how can this be solved?

Please use the recovery image sent via PM and use the toothpick method.
Then connect via WiFi, and update via My OSMC to restore full system functionality.
