How do I upgrade from RC to release?

I have returned my Pi2B with OSMC RC2 back to my home after the summer and now I have wired Internet access for it.
So I figured that I would make it upgrade itself to the latest OSMC release, but how do I do that?
I have it sitting headless on my desk with only SSH access via PuTTY. No TV to hook up and use the GUI through. But command line via PuTTY is fine.

In fact I don’t even know how I can find out which version it is currently running, but I think it was RC2 at the time I set it up in any case.
After that it has been running in the summer home with Internet access purposely disabled in order not to use the mobile broadband (with limited data usage).
Grateful for any help you may provide!

If you have few or no customisations it would be easiest to do a fresh install.

I do have quite a few customizations that I would like to keep.
I hoped there was a way through SSH to command it to go and upgrade (apt-get upgrade ???)

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Will KODI also be upgraded using apt-get dist-upgrade?

yes

Thanks!
It worked just fine and I have now the latest version, I believe. Kodi says it was compiled Aug 30 or so.
:grinning:

Latest version just keep updating when updates are available and you will be just fine

Not relevant just now, but will be next summer when it is back in the summer home with limited data over the mobile broadband network:
Is it possible to switch off the automatic updates temporarily?
I don’t want to have it auto-download a GB sized operating system image behind my back…

it doesnt do that it updates when you press update it only checks if there are updates available, however its really recommended that you do update it so might be worth while to take the rpi with you and have it updated before heading out so you dont waste your limited data on updates
