Installer does not show available device [SOLVED]

I am trying to run the osmc installer on a minimalist and completely up-to-date Debian Jessie.

The installation of the installer went OK, except that it was not on my path.

All dependencies (qt, etc.) seem to be available.

I can start the installer by invoking it wit its full path. The first few screens (language selection, network, etc.) work alright. I choose SD card as target device. Unfortunately when it comes to device selection the screen does not show any available devices. I am trying to install it on a sd card. I have re-initialized its partition table, formatted a FAT32 partition for the entire device (16GB). The device is mounted on my system, visible to file manager, etc. It does not get picked-up by the installer as available. There are no other messages available, neither can I enter a manual selection to the device path.

Any help would be appreciated. If more information is needed, please ask and I will give it if at all possible.

Thanks

You must run as sudo/root/administrator. You don’t mention if you did or not.

Thank you for your very quick reply.

Yes, I do run it with “sudo”. I cannot su to root as there is no known root user under standard Debian. “sudo” gives me root privileges, however.

This can be closed now. The issue or lack of it is as follows and reproducible:

It takes more than a minute for the device to show in the installer whereas it takes only a few seconds for the device to appear in a file manager. I realized this when I accidentally left the installer open and came back to it following a long hiatus. The actual device was showing!!!

I will have to pit it down to my impatience although there may be an issue with the time it takes to show a mounted device.

Thanks again for any help and sorry if I have wasted somebody’s time.
