Internet connection issue

I’m posting this here in hopes that someone has seen something regarding this issue

On March 14th I started not being able to access YouTube videos through the YouTube add-on. I still could access my Plex server so I thought the issue was with the add-on. After trying several different things (like posting to the forum for it) - I decided to try re-installing the whole works and starting from scratch. That was on March 29 - at which point I discovered that I could not change skins or access any add-on repositories. I have checked cords - my internet connection to the TV area works as I use my PS3 to access YouTube (but I really don’t like how that app works) … I bought a new Pi3 because I thought the issue was there since I don’t see anyone in any of these forums (one or two but I’m not sure it’s the same issue) - I tried openELEC to see if it was a distribution issue … but it still doesn’t work (I have Wi-Fi access but the signal isn’t strong enough for video transmission)

I have a log file here http://paste.osmc.io/qusovoqowa

I’m hoping to find out if anyone has any feedback on this - I’m thinking of installing a different operating system like Rasperian or Noobs to see if the internet works there … it’s not the Pi as I’m having the same issue on a Pi2 and the new Pi3 … the internet works because I can access it with my PS3 and have swapped cables with the PS3 to check that - then bought a new 30’ cable (the old one needed to be replaced) - that didn’t do anything … I’m at wits end …

I could be wrong, but I suspect that you have an internet issue still. This line is repeated in your log:

00:01:00.579 T:1753740272   ERROR: CCurlFile::Open failed with code 0 for http://download.osmc.tv/kodi/addons/krypton/addons.xml.gz.md5

Try this after ssh’ing into your Pi:

wget http://download.osmc.tv/kodi/addons/krypton/addons.xml.gz.md5

yes - I do still have the internet issue - I’m in the process of installing Noobs to see if that has the same issue - trying to determine if a Kodi related issue … can’t understand what else it could be since the internet connection works with my PS3 but not either of the 2 Pi’s I’ve had … it would be really odd if the new Pi3 would have the same issue as the old Pi2 - at least it seems that it would be to me … I will try your suggestion after I finish the Noobs test …

I had to look up SSH - something I’ve never done before … I got the Pi for video viewing - guess I’m getting a lesson in how to do more than with it now … found instructions on how to do it - will report back with update - thanks

internet works just fine via Raspbian … so it has to at least be a Kodi issue … ;-/

Ok, first let’s not mix up things. Kodi (the mediacenter) has nothing to do with your internet. You may could say it is a OSMC problem.

But looking at your logfile basically you don’t have an IP address assigned neither manually nor via DHCP. So Internet can not work.

So starting point show a screenshot (or picture) of the Network section of MyOSMC.

Try going back to OSMC, and do the wget command that I posted above. That may help narrow down the problem.

I don’t believe that it’s Kodi, otherwise there would be lots of complaints about this. It’s something unique with your network I’m guessing. Especially since you are having the problem with OSMC and LibreELEC on different Pi’s.

Ok, I just saw that you only attached Kernel log and not System Journal so it is normal that no IP address shown. I still believe this either being a Network or DNS issue.
So let’s start with the picture from MyOSMC Network screen

I think you inadvertently hit the problem - kind of … and I think I have it fixed (and I didn’t have to buy a new Pi - but well - I have a Pi3 now I guess) … I went back in to the OSMC network settings and there was a listing for DNS entered … I had tried changing this last time … didn’t do anything - thought what the hell I try it again … changed it to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4. … what I had tried last time … and viola … I have internet … which didn’t make any sense because I knew I done this before

then I remembered that my IP address was wrong - it was supposed end with a 7 and it said 8 … so I’m thinking when I changed the DNS numbers the first time - the IP address was wrong (so it still didn’t work) …

what I don’t understand is how the DNS numbers were changed to begin with - I haven’t been in the system settings for months at least - would an update have changed something?

thank you thank you thank you … even though you didn’t fix it exactly - bouncing stuff off you helped me figure it out - and you pushed me into the right direction … 2 weeks - I’ve been banging my head against a wall about this for 2 weeks ;-( …

oh hey - should I have it log everything? wasn’t sure about that and I had made a log file for the forum on the YouTube add-on that included everything and seemed horribly large … but I have no idea what I’m looking at with it … would you rather have a horribly large file with everything or are specific things most helpful?

Wondering why you don’t use DHCP makes live easier

Well it depends on the problem, e.g. for your problem the system log would be the most useful one first

it was on DHCP … I had to switch it to manual to see the DNS numbers … but it was originally on DHCP - I think … I’ve looked as so much stuff today I’m not sure what anything is anymore  … but it was on the automatic setting all along until I changed it the first time when it didn’t work … I’m assuming that it was wrong then (because changing the DNS numbers didn’t work the first time) … I didn’t notice it until later - but then … yeah … it works now … which makes me a very happy camper …

thank you again … I’ll just have it log everything - I’m thinking that those of you who understand it would know where to look for what you need pretty much - right? … I know enough to get there eventually and have some idea what someone is asking for when they’re trying to help me with something - but I don’t futz with the inner workings of these things enough to be able to go right to a problem … but that’s what forums are for … and I am SO glad they exist …
