Issue switching between DVB-S and SVB-T tuner in Kodi 16.1

Versions in use:
OSMC 2016.08-1
Kodi 16.1
Tvheadend 4.0.9

Tuners:
PCTV 292e
Tevii s660

Hi All,

When chaning channels from the DVB-s tuner to the DVB-t tuner, the image freezes. The gui remains responsive and you can hear the new channel audio. The work around seems to be to stop the playing on the DVB-s tuner, before changing channels. This isn’t ideal.

I’ve noticed a small power issue occassionally on the DVB-s tuner (graphic square in corner) so I will try a 3a power supply. I’m not sure that this is related however.

Anyone else notice issues when switching between different channels from different tuners?

There is one Kodi bug mentioned which sounds similar, but not sure if its related:

Thanks,

Can you try with confluence skin instead of OSMC skin?

Hi,

Its the confluence skin I’m using.

I may have solved it - or at least helped (time will tell). I bought the mpeg-2 license to enable hardware decoding as I’d read some conflicting oppinions about whether this speeds up channel switching.

This is the only change I’ve made and whilst the whole pi seems slower, the channel switching appears to be working.

There seems to be major issues with the s600 tuner (locking up, not appearing on reboot etc), but I’ve had problems using this on windows also. This is my concern about what was causing the channel swithing problem.

It could be that my issues are all down to not enough power going to peripherals. Perhaps a powered usb hub would help, but I’m guessing I’d need to retune all over again as tvheadend doesn’t seem to be able to recognise its the same device (unless there’s a way of doing this?).

I’m going to try a 3amp psu to see if that helps.

Also check the cable that can make some differences

Do yoiu mean the usb cable to the peripheral(s) or from power supply to pi?

This one

Its the raspberry pi official PSU - the cable is moulded to the plug. I’ll order the 3.0amp one and try that with different cables.

If your concern is that your peripherals may not be getting enough power, I would go for the hub before replacing the PSU. Even a 3a may not be sufficient while running 2 tuners and the Pi, but offloading the tuners’ power demand to the hub would more likely ensure that everything is getting enough power.

Thanks. I was avoiding messing around with the Tevii s660 tuner again as its a real pain. However it may be the best option. I’ll try that. At this stage I’m really not sure if its the driver or power issues. The tuner does have its own power supply, but I’m not completely sure its adequate.

Perhaps wishful thinking and the hardware itself is just…well…rubbish but there seems to be a lack of usb dvb-s2 tuners out there as alternatives.

My capture card and dvb tuner gets pretty warm.
Those devices can take a lot of power and when they are warm already, might even take more than the standard alows (500+ mA)
