Jan update - Sad face - PI 2

Hello Everyone,

So here is my issue, my Rasp PI 2 died after updating on Jan 24. I haven’t had time to look at this until today.

Based on this old post Latest Update has got me stuck in an unhappy face loop - #5 by DBMandrake

I did the following:

does mplayer depend on X11? It seems to have installed some x11 libs… OSMC does not use x11. It renders to framebuffer.

Suggest you first uninstall mplayer and then try to upgrade.
Also if you have sad face we need Kodi logs.
Last use grab-logs to upload logs making it easier to read your thread.

grab-logs -A gives everything that is needed.

0 Kodi log is really strange

Suggest you purge all mplayer, mplayer2 and what else you tried to install and then run
sudo apt-get install --reinstall rbp2-mediacenter-osmc

So I did that and got nothing.

Removed the mplayer and mplayer2 as suggested, and executed the command successfully but still no start.

Decided to back up my /home/osmc/.kodi and reinstall OSMC on the sdcard. install was done fine OSMC is running. I put my .kodi profile back in its place and the same error.

It seems something in the profile is causing the crash, but I can’t seem to find what. I will try some more tomorrow.

Good testing there. Are you still have no Kodi.log? Having it crashed that early that the log is not produced is really strange. check on the permission on /home/osmc/.kodi/temp and also if there might be a corrupt kodi.log there. Maybe just do a rm on .kodi/temp

Or just for test case delete .kodi folder and reboot. If it then started put back your folder and review

Well this is even more strange than I can explain it.

So I started poking about with my copy of the .kodi profile which was running fine before the issue on January 24th when this crash.

I looked at the profile.xml and this is what i found in the content.

How did this get in my profile.xml I am not sure, but once that was fixed kodi started working fine.

That’s a clear case of file system corruption. That looks like a snippet out of the dpkg database which is at /var/lib/dpkg/status, which contains the central listing of all installed debian packages.

I’d be really concerned about that type of corruption where contents of one file are appearing in a completely unrelated file! Who knows what else might be corrupt.
