January update - Poor Network performance - Buffering

Hi fellow OSMC people.

I have been very pleased with the OSMC Vero 4K, and after editing the advanced settings.xml it has performed well networking wise streaming from my windows SMB share with a CAT6 cable via a gigabit router. Happy camper since October.

But since updating to the january update i got very poor networking performance, not only with 4k video files, but also 1080P.

I have tried editing the xml file and also tried other values recommended by other users, but still no luck. Still chopping and buffering.

I have also tried to install a whole new fresh install of the osmc january software from usb media, but still the same result both with and without xml file.

I have had to connect my nvidia shield for now, it work perfectly fine from the same server and the same cable with huge 4K 80gb files

I want to use my OSMC again as before.

Anyone experienced the same and can i get some help?

Hi,

Logs will help us resolve this issue:

Are you using kodi smb shares or fstab mounted shares?

It may be worth reinstalling the December image and testing, it will help confirm there are no external factors are at play here.

Hi Tom, and thank you for replying, even on a saturday.

I am using SMB shares.

I will try to install december image.

There are two options to use SMB shares and that was the question from @Tom_Doyle

  1. From within the GUI via Add Source - Windows Networking
  2. Mounted via a fstab entry to /mnt/share

Which one did you use?
