In a moment of bravery, I decided to reinstall my HiFiBerry DAC+. I plugged it in and booted up and was recognised as ALSA bcm2835.
Am I correct in assuming that it is now supported out of the box and that none of the entries previously needed, ie:
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus-overlay
dtparam=audio=off
anymore?
ALSA BCM2835 is the internal DAC/PWM filter on the board.
You need to make the above changes, or do this via My OSMC.
I can’t help you with your question, but I think you are wanting help with Kodi. XBMC hasn’t been updated for several years. I’m not trying to be snarky; it is just a pet peeve of mine. I do hope someone can help you out with the real question.
Cheers.

OK. and yes osmc/kodi. You are right that the entries are needed. I must hade forgotten to turn off the telly whilst testing… Anyway, results are as before: Screws up video playback, so I pulled the HiFiBerry and went back to my previous solution. a HDMI “tap”. Works fine, but requires the TV to be on.
