Live TV issues

Hi. Been running tvheadend server on rpi5 using a WinTV-dualHD tuner, using Vero V as client. Been working great, until experiencing internet disruption recently which froze the OTA stream. Not quite sure what happened, as normally, loss of internet should not affect the stream over LAN.

Either way, I don’t want live tv affected by router issues, so decided to setup both server and client on Vero instead. OTA streams now work during internet disruption or a complete reboot of the router. Result!

However, I’m experiencing issues watching channels that are currently being recorded. For example, recording bbc one hd and itv hd at the same time, and switching between them (selecting the live stream as opposed to the active recording) results in either audio being completely out of sync, video stutter, or only the audio being played (with a screensaver being displayed). Tv tuner attached to Vero is connected via a powered usb hub.

I’ve tried changing recording path in tvheadend to a drive on an autofs mount (on rpi) or directly to /home/osmc to see if this makes any difference but it doesn’t. Also turned off time shift with same results.

Is this just a result of asking a lot of the system perhaps? Or the tv tuner itself? Or a possible bug?

edit: even recording one channel - bbc one hd, switching to it and selecting play live creates issues, although does sometimes play fine.

Interesting…I found this thread in which Graham provides a link to a tvheadend 4.3 build. Decided to try it and it completely fixes the issue. Recording multiple channels and switching between them works perfectly now.

This has been an issue for me going back to the days of Vero 4k, and the reason why I’ve been using separate server/client machines since.

Time to consider offering an optional newer build like CoreELEC/ LibreELEC do? I know 4.3 isn’t a ‘stable’ build, but having used it for years now, I don’t see any trade-offs in performance over 4.2 (except for not picking up channels that are currently off air while scanning muxes).

We need TVH to cut a 4.3 release at some point.
I was at Kodi DevCon last week and the TVH maintainer was present. I’ll pick his brain in a bit and see if they’re any closer to such a release

I don’t suppose you got any closer with this did you? I’m also looking to bring tvheadend onto the Vero V but would like to use 4.3 as that’s what I currently use on another server - I was hoping to lift and shift the config.
