Movie library set-up

Subject: Need Advice About SMB Library Sync, Movie Set Artwork, and Missing “Add Videos” Option on Vero

Hello,

First of all, thank you very much for all the help and knowledge shared in the forum. I have learned a lot from the community while setting up my Vero V and Kodi movie library.

I am currently using SMB shares together with tinyMediaManager (tmm), local NFO files, and local artwork for my movie collection, and I would really appreciate some advice regarding a few issues I am encountering.

  1. Difficulty verifying whether all tmm movies are correctly imported into Vero/Kodi

Originally, tmm showed around 3170 movies, while Vero/Kodi scanned more than 4100 movies.

I suspected Kodi was scanning unwanted files such as extras, samples, BDMV/STREAM files, or multiple versions separately.

After reorganizing different versions of the same movie into single folders and cleaning/rebuilding the Vero/Kodi library, its count dropped to around 2600 movies, and movie sets dropped to around 220 collections.

Now I am confused about what the real situation is:

Are some movies actually missing from the Vero/Kodi library?

Or is Kodi now correctly merging multiple versions into single entries?

Or are some folders/files no longer being scanned after the cleanup?

I would like to verify whether all movies managed by tmm have successfully entered the Vero/Kodi library.

Is there any recommended method, workflow, plugin, or tool to cross-check a large local SMB + tmm library with Kodi/Vero?

For example:

comparing missing titles between tmm and Kodi,

exporting/importing lists,

identifying skipped folders,

detecting duplicate or merged multi-version movies,

or checking whether some sources are no longer being scanned.

  1. Movie set / collection artwork not displaying correctly

In tmm, many movie collections already have posters and artwork downloaded correctly.

Inside Vero/Kodi’s Movie Sets interface, however, more than half of the collection folders still display only blank folder icons instead of collection posters.

If I open the collection, the individual movie posters display normally.

I have already:

  • enabled local artwork usage,
  • generated movie set artwork folders in tmm,
  • configured Kodi/Artwork Beef style naming,
  • pointed the movie set artwork path in Vero/Kodi to the correct artwork folder.

Even so, many collection root folders still do not display artwork correctly.

Is there any additional cache refresh, setting, plugin, or recommended procedure needed for Kodi/Vero to properly load local movie set artwork?

  1. “Add videos” option sometimes disappears completely

Occasionally, both File Manager and Videos menus no longer show the “Add videos” option at all. At the same time, plugging a USB drive directly into Vero V also produces no response.

After rebooting, the option sometimes returns again.

I am not sure whether this could be related to:

  • a Kodi state issue,
  • SMB mounting problems,
  • USB mounting,
  • skin/UI glitches,
  • another underlying system issue.

Has anyone encountered similar behavior before, or knows what might cause it?

  1. Direct Baidu Netdisk Playback on Vero

Is there any Kodi/Vero plugin, addon, or recommended method that can directly connect to Baidu Netdisk (Baidu Cloud drive/ 百度网盘), so that Vero can directly decode and play video or audio files stored in the cloud? I found an addon related to google-drive in Vero software database.

Ideally, I am looking for something that could:

  • browse Baidu Netdisk folders directly from Vero/Kodi,

  • stream media files without manually downloading them first,

  • and support direct playback/decoding on the Vero device itself.

I understand this may depend on API limitations, unofficial plugins, WebDAV solutions, or external mounting methods, so I would really appreciate any recommendations or experiences from other users.

Thank you again for your time, patience, and all the support from the forum community. I really appreciate any suggestions or troubleshooting ideas.

Best regards,

James

Current versions of Kodi have a merge movie function.

Probably not. There can be situations with odd file layouts but unless your grouping multiple movies together while having your scraper set so it is only looking for one movie per folder making it seem like this is happening.

There is an addon in Kodi’s repo called “Missing Movies” which shows movies and series that are in your Kodi sources but not added to your library. It doesn’t have any functions to help you fix them, but it at least does a good job of helping you identify what needs to be tweaked elsewhere.

Movie sets can be a bit of a PITA because the set is created on the first movie that is scanned into a collection and then it does not update the set after that. Kodi also currently lacks a refresh option to easily update the movie set. The best way I have found to deal with this is to navigate to the movie sets and delete the entire set and when asked tell it to also remove the movies in the set from the library as well. Then when up update your library again and it scraps in the movies anew it will bring in the updated movie set information. If you remove the set and not the movies from the library then what happens is it removes just the movie set information for each movie in the set and you then need to navigate to every single movie in the library, bring up the information window, and then hit refresh to get it back into the set. Also when you do this you want to have disabled the Kodi option for allowing file deletion for obvious reasons.

I have this same issue also

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and suggestions. Your reply was extremely helpful and helped me better understand how Kodi is handling merged movie versions and movie set information.

The explanation about movie sets being created during the first scan and not automatically refreshing afterwards also makes a lot of sense now. I think this may indeed be the reason why many of my collection posters are still missing even though tmm already generated the artwork locally.

I will spend some time trying your recommendations, especially:

  • checking whether my folder structure is consistently “one movie per folder”,
  • installing and testing the “Missing Movies” addon,
  • rebuilding/removing problematic movie sets to let Kodi recreate them properly.

Thank you again for taking the time to explain everything so clearly. I really appreciate the help from the community here.

Wish you a pleasant weekend agead!

James

Hope this message finds you well.

Since the third question my previous post has not received any replies yet, I would like to follow up with some updated information and ask for further advice.

At the moment, I have already successfully shared my main movie library from my PC through SMB, and Kodi on the Vero V can access the tinyMediaManager movie library correctly.

However, I now want to add another separate hard drive (a collection of video clips) through SMB for temporary viewing only, and I cannot find the “Add videos” option anymore, the “Add videos” entry is missing from both Videos section and File Manage.

Because of this, I am not sure whether this is:

  • a Kodi/OSMC UI issue

  • a skin-related problem, I tried Kodi Estuary skin but no help.

  • SMB mounting behavior

  • or another system issue

Kodi on my other Android box can add the same SMB source very easily, so I do not think the SMB share itself is the problem.

Could anyone please advise:

  1. how to restore the “Add videos” option

  2. or how to add another SMB hard drive manually on Vero V

Thank you very much for your help!

Settings>Media>General>Show “Add Sources” buttons>[enable]

With that enabled go to Settings>Media>Library>Videos> and you should find the add source at the bottom of the sources list (or from the main landing page videos>files). My preference for this situation is to add the source and not attach a scraper to it and then just browse to it from the “videos” section. Estuary makes a widget for all the sources so that is a pretty quick way to get to it. IMO File Manager is sub optimal for this task.

A person could access the Vero via SSH or SMB and manually modify ~/.kodi/userdata/sources.xml and passwords.xml to tweak sources.

Thanks a lot! I found the restore button according to your advice and could see ‘Add Files’ now, and I will just add the hard drive of video clips without scrapter. Really appreciate your timely response!
