Newly installed Vero V won't output higher than 1920 x 1080

I’ve just bought a Vero V and installed it in my system to replace an ageing HTPC. Media files are on a 4TB SSD, connected to the Vero by USB. The player is connected to a Denon X3800-H AVR which feeds a JVC N7 projector. With this arrangement, my HTPC produced a 3840 x 2160 image.

The setting up has all gone pretty smoothly, except that the Vero won’t output any resolution higher than 1920 x 1080. I’ve searched here and elsewhere for information on this, and implemented the fixes I found: I enabled Adjust display refresh rate on start/stop, and enabled Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling. I also rebooted the player. Unfortunately none of this had any effect.

Am I overlooking something? Apart from setting up the libraries, tweaking the subtitle settings, and trying the tweaks I just mentioned, I don’t think I’ve made any changes to the out-of-the-box condition of the Vero.

I’d be grateful for any thoughts. Many thanks.

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

Welcome, Bert. If you can get the logs that would be great. My first thought is: did you turn on the AVR and PJ before turning on the Vero? It shouldn’t matter, but sometimes is does.

Thanks for those speedy replies. I’ll generate a log, as requested.

To be honest, I can’t recall the order I turned on the gear. I suspect it was Denon - Vero - projector.

OK, if I’ve done this correctly, this should be the link to the log:

Thanks.

Looks like Vero is getting its info only from the Denon. Try switching the input on the AVR away from Vero then back to force a re-read of the ‘EDID’.

I’ll try it; thanks.

Edited to add:

I’m afraid that made no difference.

Edited again:

I’ve just had a thought! Something to try…

Solved it. In the excitement of trying the Vero, I’d completely forgotten that if left to its own devices the Denon defaults its output to the resolution of the lowest display connected to it, even if that display is in standby. So my small “everyday TV” set was forcing the image on the projector down to 1920 x 1080.

By switching the Denon so it recognised only the projector, I got a 3840x2160 image on a 4K movie file.

Should I undo the tweaks I tried ( Adjust display refresh rate on start/stop, and Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling) or leave them enabled?

Glad you sorted it. On start/stop is fine. In fact I don’t know why it’s not the default. 4:2:2 will do no harm but if your PJ works without it, turn it off.

Thanks, I’ll do that.

I have a couple of other first-time-user questions but, as requested, I’ll put them in a new topic.
