NextDNS on Vero4?

anyone tried to run NextDNS CLI on the Vero successfuilly? i’m getting this error following the instruction

ERROR: Unsupported OS: Linux
ERROR: Unknown bin location for
INFO: OS:
INFO: GOARCH: arm64
INFO: GOOS: linux
INFO: NEXTDNS_BIN:
INFO: LATEST_RELEASE: 1.32.2
ERROR: Cannot detect running environment.

Would assume that it will clash with the OSMC networking setup and not recommend running it on OSMC.

Hi,

Will probably have more success with dnscrypt-proxy.

Thanks Tom.

You can get it to install by temporarily editing file /etc/os-release (using sudo) and changing the line ID=osmc to ID=debian. After installing, you should change it back.

I can think of no reason why it will affect OSMC networking. It simply listens on port 53 and redirects DNS traffic over HTTPS (DoH). (As an aside, DoH is pretty insecure, which is probably why Google promotes it so much. It is known to leak data right, left and centre. DNS over TLS (DoT) is a lot more secure.)

both are supposed to be supported by NextDNS, it seems.

Have it running now and seems to work, will report back if it creates any issues w/ osmc.
Thanks @dillthedog for the pointer
