Today (10.03.2017) I routinely accepted the suggested update of OSMC.
The operating system reports itself as
4.4.27-6 osmc armv61
if querried via ssh, uname -rm, from another linux computer in my local net.
The screen has changed its appearance. It no longer accepts any of my attempts
to log in via my user name. The name is indicated on the welcome screen but the screen
does not react to any keys of my remote control – which it did minutes before.
I am afraid I cannot tell you more on my installation unless you tell me how to ask my
rasperry via ssh: it was a gift which I did not querry.
I am reluctant to skip oscm and Kodi, but updates such as the last one
can have this side effect.
If as a user I may utter one wish, it is: keep it simple, simple, simple: if you change the
appearance, don’t change the functionality. If you change the functionality, don’t change the
appearance.
If you change the appearance, give the user a simple choise to stay with what he is used to.
In the case of the last update: Do not change to a background which makes the foreground
unreadable, no matter how much you like the background. Readability comes first, first, first.
Concerning the earlier versions: distinguish selected items from deselected ones by more
than 1 pixel of brightness, no matter how elegant you find such a small change. Ever and ever again,
I was confused by the reaction of my computer, which reacted differently from my expectations because
I misjudged which item had been selected. Developers, please think of your
unknowing users rather than agreeing to your expert colleges.
Which brings me back to my topic:
How can I pass the unreacting welcome screen “Norbert Letze Anmeldung …”?
It does not react to any keys.
