October update: temperature, remote control

Installed the October update. After that, temperature problems with Nebula skin (95°C). OSMC skin at around 80°C while idling.

Main problem: browsing through movies or series. Hitting the “right” button once will go one video forward. Pressing it the second time will forward endlessly with increasing speed. No chance to select a video.

While playing a video, no fast forward is possible. The screen goes black to the point where my TV errors out with “unsupported video format”. “Stop” key does not work then, “back” also not. Only possibility: restart Vero.

Vero 4k, connected via wifi, Logitech Harmony Elite remote control which used to work before.

95C is within range.

We’d need some logs to know what’s happening with seeking. Does it happen with all files?

Sam

Ah, ok then.
Until now it seems it happens with all files. In my case, this is mainly avi.
Any special logs you need?
Jan

Please upload full logs via My OSMC with debugging enabled when there is a problem.

I hope I did that right: https://paste.osmc.tv/harasotupu
That is: hitting “OK” on a video, selecting “from start”, hitting “forward” 4 times (skipped like 1 second), hitting “forward” again 4 times (threw me back to the movie gallery and forwarded one movie).

Pulled a new log with a reboot before. Same issue, skipping forward repeats all over (“previous line repeats x times”, altogether 298 times) until I press “back” which then throws me back to the gallery, because it reverts at the same speed. Extract:

Problem still existing. Which info can I additionally deliver?

We need full logs

I hope this time it’s correct:

Problem this time occurred while navigating to a movie. I hardly couldn’t, because OSMC repeated my keypress so often.

Are the logs full? What does “Previous line repeats n times” mean, and how can I avoid it?

Also, by the way, the “Official Kodi Remote” iphone app can’t establish a connection to my device any more. It just came to my mind so that I at least could try whether the behaviour is different between Harmony Elite and Kodi Remote, or watch videos, but it does not connect any more. I remember it worked before the October update because I use Kodi Remote to enter text.

Please submit all logs and reboot before reproducing the issue. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

Hi grahamh,
https://paste.osmc.tv/caweziriko, as written above.

Well, I assume the “Official Kodi Remote” by joethefox uses the same access method like the Kore app on Android, means http access to port 8080.

Could you try to login from a browser at http://<your Vero IP>:8080 with the related credentials you set? (I see in the logs you’ve set a very short username and password with a special character).
Is that working?

I had just ended answering you as the Kodi Remote was able to connect, and so were the browsers. So, after several minutes the connection was successful. Using any of those is next to impossible, because any keypress on Kodi Remote takes seconds to be performed on OSMC, and listing TVShows on the browser takes ages to load a crippled UI with broken fanart/posters.

Could you just for tests connect your Vero with a LAN cable to the router? Your log shows you are using WLAN.
For that in MyOSMC->Network disable Wireless and enable Wired. A reboot will not hurt.

I would like to see, if a browser on a PC/Mac also connected via cable shows the same latency issues accessing the Vero’s web server or not. This will prove your wifi to be (part of) the problem or not.
I assume you’re not doing any activities on the OSMC device exhausting the available network bandwidth like torrent, resilio sync, syncthing, etc.

Meanwhile, Kodi Remote and remotes in browsers work again, wired and wirelessly. I can’t reproduce the lagging problem.

The main problem, repeating key presses, still exists, however only with the hardware remote, not with Kodi Remote app.

So, what device you’ve chosen from the Logitech db to simulate the original OSMC RF remote control?
I think, if you take the original OSMC RF Remote Control instead the Logitech device you don’t have the problem of repeated key pressing?

The good question is: Is there a OSMC RF (radio frequency) Remote Control at all on the Logitech db or is there only the OSMC IR (Infra Red) Remote Control from the Vero 1?

In the past I’ve had issues with my Harmony 650 (only IR capable) and the OSMC Vero-entry in the Logitech db which simulates the infrared Remtoe Controle of the Vero 1 … and that not even in a good way. With my Harmony 650 I switched to an XBOX360 simulation which works quite good … but your advanced Harmony should also be able to send the RF commands, right?

I think someone added the OSMC IR remote from 2015; not the new RF remotes.

I do not believe it’s possible for a Harmony to replicate the OSMC RF remote. But it doesn’t matter – because if you have such a device you can use a different remote profile and send your own commands.

As the Harmony hub can’t be used for RF connections, this is not possible. Correct
