OSMC Remote problems

My OSMC remote started having issues a few months ago, where some of the buttons (back, pause/Play and Stop) were no longer working. I thought this was an issue with dirt, or oils getting under the contacts, so I opened it up to clean it, but it was actually very clean. Somewhere in the forums here I found a trick that of you removed the receiver for a few seconds and plugged it back in, it would reset the remote and start working again.

That worked for a while, but now, the problem keeps coming back every 5 minutes or so. I unplug the receiver, plug it back in, it works for about 5 minutes, then it looses those buttons again.

Is this a hardware problem with the receiver or the remote?

I can make it work with bluetooth or RF keyboards, but I can’t make it work with any of the other bluetooth remotes I tried (like a G20Pro or nVidia Shield).

I suggest uploading some logs so we can see what’s going on.

It’s unclear what remote you are operating the device on.

Not sure what you mean by this, can you please clarify?

Sam

Ok, I “think” I uploaded the log. I didn’t know which one you need, and by default the KODI log is the only one that’s enabled.

The systems is a Vero 4K, and the remote I’m talking about is the OSMC remote itself.

So, I can use the OSMC remote, but only the navigation buttons, OK, Home, Info, menu and volume buttons work. The Back button, Play/Pause and Stop do not do anything. If I unplug the remote dongle from the USB, then plug it back in, those 3 buttons start to work again, but stop working after a few minutes. Doing a cold boot boot (power cycle) does the same thing, lets the remote work for a few minutes, then those 3 buttons become non-functional.

I can plug a Logitech unified 2.4Ghz dongle in the USB port, and my Logitech keyboard and mouse work, I also paired a Bluetooth keyboard with the Vero and that works too, but I can’t make ANY Bluetooth remotes work. I can pair them, but none of the buttons do anything.

I know these remotes work fine (most functions, out of the box, without any special configurations) on an Intel NUC with KODI and an AMLogic LePotato with CoreElec

Can you let me know the log URL?

FWIW, I have a Vero 4K+ as well, and I tried the remote from it on here, but it doesn’t recognize it at all, so I’ll probably have to pull the dongle from that and try it on this unit, but that’s a job for tomorrow. Right now, it’s way past my bedtime.

Please upload complete logs.

When you say ‘My OSMC’, I have no idea what device you are using.

Your Kodi log shows you running quite an old version of OSMC but I’ve no idea if that’s the affected device or not

I guess I’m making things complicated by mentioning other things I tried, so let’s stick to the problem hardware.

This particular system is a Vero 4K. The remote in question is the standard Vero remote that came with the unit. It’s currently running OSMC version 2024.08-1 (kernel: Linux 4.9.269-59-osmc). This is the last version of OSMC you have available for Vero 4K/Vero 4K+ systems.

The complete logs are at https://paste.osmc.tv/ayopakozow

The last version for 4K/4K+ is 2025.03-1.

My mistake, I was looking at the image list from top to bottom and assumed the bottom one was the latest.

Nevertheless, I did an update, which updated the Linux kernel to: 4.9.269-62-OSMC.It also did some update to the My OSMC menu, which now shows OSMC August 2025 2025.08-1.

However, the remote problem still persists. After the system rebooted and updated, the remote worked correctly for about 5 minutes or so, then the 3 buttons I mentioned before stopped working.

OK, can you upload some new logs?

Cheers, will pick this up tomorrow.

Bit late here

no problem.

Curiously the remote on my Vero 4K + just started this behaviour a couple of days ago. Reboots and battery changes have not made any difference.

Warm reboots (restarting Kodi) or battery changes don’t work. A Vero power cycle or simply unplugging the USB dongle for a few seconds then plugging it back in, restores the functions for a while.

I think you already replaced the battery and re-paired the remote with the dongle?

I did not, since it’s still paired to the dongle, it just loses the functionality of 3 buttons, but I’ll try it and let you know.

Edit: And yes, I did change the battery, there’s a brand new one in the remote.

… and the answer is… It didn’t make any difference. The remote still does the same thing. In about 5 minutes or so, the Pause/Play, Stop and Back button stop working.

Update: A couple of days ago I ordered a replacement OSMC reote, and it came today. I’ve been using the new remote now for a while, and it confirms what I thought all along. This was a hardware issue. The new remote works fine.

The only thing remaining, is to figure out if the issue was the remote itself or the USB dongle. I’ll be doing some additional testing later, and posting the results here.

@sam_nazarko Sam, that’s for trying. In don’t think there’s a need to go through all the logs now that I confirmed the issue is hardware related.

Cheers,

If it’s a 4K/4K+ remote, it could just need the firmware reflashed.
