OSMC - to splash screen then stops

Hi,

Recently installed some new Video AddOns and upon the next reboot ran into the following issue, hoping for some help:

 • Boot RPi2
 • OSMC Splash screen
 • Shows an odd message at the top of the screen with a status bar that is red
 • Then mentions waiting for root filesystem device /dev/mmcblk0p6
 • Screen goes black

SD Card: Kingston 16 GB Class 4 MicroSDHC Flash Card
Log: paste.osmc.io/mefazugeta

Thanks,
Joel

That log doesn’t show anything other than config.txt, so no idea what parameters you used.
Anyhow assuming you still can ssh into OSMC do mv .kodi .kodi_backup && reboot that should create a clean Kodi without any addons and may allow you to boot.
But
Then mentions waiting for root filesystem device /dev/mmcblk0p6
sound like a SD Card or Filesystem issue (assuming you are on NOOBS install) so you might be out of luck.

Sounds more like SDHost incompatibility, particularly with a Kingston SD card.

@tozer9 as Sam mentioned it might actually be related to an incompatibility between your Kingston SD Card and the accelerated sdhost driver.
If that is the case you might need to do a reinstall. You might first try to add dtoverlay=mmc to /boot/config.txt and check if it boots.

I backed up the .kodi directory and tried a reboot, same reaction.

I am running a NOOBS install.

I was pretty sure that I checked compatibility with this card and that it checked out before purchasing.

I’ll try this to see if it boots.

Thanks for the help.

If I have to go a reinstall, is the NOOBS route not the ideal way to go? I’ve read that proper shutdown is important for the SD Card, and I have ran into issues with freezing and would just pull the cord with fingers crossed rather than ssh into osmc and sudo cmd to shutdown. This may have caused the issue experienced but when I ran a fsck on the /dev/mmcblk0p6 file it completed without error or message.

Thanks,
Joel

If you plan to use OSMCand just OSMC, use Download - OSMC

As Sam wrote if you don’t intend to install any other OS than OSMC then using the OSMC installer gives a much cleaner system than NOOBS.

@sam_nazarko & @fzinken

Thanks - was able to do a fresh re-install using Download - OSMC. Thanks for the direction.

For future issues, is there a way using get-logs to get the detailed log that would be required to debug if I wasn’t able to get into OSMC and had to ssh to the host?

grab-logs -A
