Playing a video from a specific time

Apologies if I’m overlooking something obvious or have failed to find any previous mention of this, but how can I play a video from somewhere other than the beginning, for example from the 50 minutes mark?

Many thanks.

Try after you started the video type 5000 and press enter/ok.

Fzinken, thanks. But type how? The VeroV remote has no number keys.

If you don’t have a Multimedia remote you can use your TV remote

Fzinken, thanks; I’ll try it. It seems a slight pity though, and a retrograde step from my old HTPC/Kodi setup, where a single (Hewlett Packard) remote could achieve what was needed. I had hoped that that remote would work with the VeroV but sadly it doesn’t. Though perhaps they can be paired? I’ll investigate.

A multimedia remote might be a good solution. Is there a particular one you would recommend?

So the HP remote had number keys or how did you tell the HTPC the position you want to start from?

Yes, the HP remote has number keys. And unfortunately, the VeroV didn’t respond at all to the (LG) TV remote.

Does it react to other keys like the cursor keys of the LG remote? Otherwise might help to reset CEC (disconnect TV and Vero from power for a few minutes).

If that is not working maybe you want to use the HP remote with the Vero

No, none of the LG remote’s keys have any effect. And as I mentioned, the HP remote also gets no response. I’ll try the reset, thanks for the thought.

Did you configure the HP Remote in MyOsmc?

I thought I had, but I’ll recheck; thanks.

As a data point, the numbers on my LG remote don’t pass through either. It’s one feature I miss the most from when I had my Panasonic!

As near as I’ve been able to tell, most TV’s don’t forward the number keys over CEC. I don’t think any LG TV does.

What exactly is trying to be accomplished here where using the direction keys (up/down for chapter/big step if no chapters exist, and left/right for small skip step) isn’t a good option? If you just want to cue something up you can just navigate to that time point and stop playback. You can then resume from there when playback starts. There is even options in Kodi’s settings for if you want to be asked to resume or not for both the select and play buttons. If you have a file you always want to play from a certain point you could probably make a file for commercial skipping to make that happen set such that it either allows for quick navigation over sections or acts like parts of the video are not there at all depending on how you construct the file. There is also an option to make a bookmark on a file for quick navigation back to a certain point. There is likely other options as well that I’m just not thinking of off hand.

Well Panasonic is still the best for CEC

I want to be able to select a video and go to an exact time within it, directly and with as little mucking about as possible. I could do exactly this when I was running Kodi on a Dell desktop and using a Hewlett Packard remote: not to be able to do it with my VeroV seems unfortunately like a fairly large step backwards.

Assuming you were using Kodi on your PC, there is little difference between the two platforms. It is the same Kodi, and your not stuck using only the supplied remote. Many IR remotes will work with the built in IR receiver of the Vero’s (make sure you removed the protective film and have line of sight between the remote and the front of the device) if you choose the matching profile in the My OSMC add-on’s remote section. I think the correct profile for a old HP MCE remote is either the rc6 or full lircd profile. I think I remember someone posting about the HP receiver being used not working, but I don’t remember if there was a resolution. I personally use a FLIRC USB receiver to take input from an IR Harmony universal remote as it was a fairly inexpensive upgrade to add some extra features easily. Some people use Bluetooth connected remotes or keyboards. There are lots of options available, including using Kodi remote apps on a phone or tablet… or you could just bookmark the spots you want in the video and that would allow you to navigate to specific spots quick and easy.

Thanks. I thought I’d tried both options but I could well be mistaken; I’ll try again.

EDITED TO ADD:

Both codes work, but unfortunately (as I believe someone above surmised) the number keys aren’t picked up.

That comment was about the TV Remote (CEC) your HP Remote via IR should work for all keys

Strange. I’ll try again, thanks.

How exactly are you testing? The number keys by default don’t do anything in most Windows. If you press them while playing a video there should be an overlay that shows up with the numbers you pressed inserted into a time code. Once you input the time you want you have to press OK/select in order to get to switch to that time. You also have to be fairly quick about it as the overlay will dismiss within a couple seconds of the last button press.
