Recent Update - no video signal

Sorry Folks, but this update is only showing me a blue screen. All was
working fine yesterday under RC3, but after doing an update via the OSMC
program no video,
Using my YATSE program on my mobile, I can still
start Addons, for example ShoutCast + Radio Paradise( a very good
internet radio program) however nothing but blue video screen - audio is
fine.
Any ideas would be great. Oh and WinSCP and putty are connecting also.

  1. R Pi B. Was on RC3 - USB install, SD Card for boot
  2. Did the update via the OSMC updater - manual
  3. Seemed to go well, downloaded, installed and ask for new start. Clicked Yes.
  4. That was the last time video was shown, since then - blue screen.
  5. Audio is there and works, also it is possible to connect via WinSCP and putty.
  6. Should be possible to post a log, but where is it to be found and which log is wanted?
    PS, That I have no video display, it is not possible to start and see the OSMC program, ie debugging mode, or upload log from with in.
    Would liked to just get the video signal back, but am thinking of new install.

Could this be the log that you are asking for?
Got it via SSH - sudo journalctl | paste-log
http://paste.osmc.io/mukoninecu

When you say the screen is blue, are you sure that’s not your TV displaying a blue background when it is not receiving any signal ? I can’t think of anything that would cause OSMC to actually output a blue screen.

Unfortunately the log you provided doesn’t provide any clues. What would be more useful are the kodi log and the output of tvservice. Can you provide the output of the following commands:

paste-log /home/osmc/.kodi/temp/kodi.log
tvservice -s
tvservice -m CEA
tvservice -m DMT

Also have you tried the simple stuff like reseating the HDMI cable or swapping it for a different cable ? Also are you sure the TV is on the right input ? Sometimes CEC problems can cause the TV to switch to the wrong HDMI input when the Pi boots, so double check in the TV’s menu that it hasn’t switched to the wrong input.

Hi,
I resolved the problem by doing a new install of OSMC RC3.
Below is a paste of the session using your commands from the post above.
This is not the install that was making the problems. It is also without setting things up. i.e. Pal TV here at 50 Hz etc.
As an added note, as I did the ‘normal’ update I had forgot to remove a Bluetooth dongle. I have noticed earlier an both of my Pi-s with an usb install they will not start- reboot with something else on a usb port other than the usb install.

osmc@osmc-basement:~$ tvservice -s

osmc@osmc-basement:~$ tvservice -m CEA

osmc@osmc-basement:~$ tvservice -m DMT
Group DMT has 0 modes:

Those tvservice results look like there is a default setting (no device detected) and when you did the commands there was no live TV connected.

This is composite output. Plug in a composite display and I suspect you’ll see Kodi.
That suggests no HDMI was connected and powered when you booted.

You could try this if you always use the same HDMI display:

Hi All
Thanks for the replies. The Pi involved is indeed on an older TV, no HDMI on it and thus using the composit video connection, It is down in the basement and wasn’t turned on. Here is a new run with it on.

notice that the document to paste.osmc says too long. Once again this is not the install that was giving the problem. This is a ‘new’ install and is working fine.
The problem arose after reading Further improvements to OSMC - OSMC
and doing an update from within OSMC via the OSMC program and doing a manual update.
After the download, install and being asked about new start - Yes or No (chose Y) was the last time that a video signal was sent to the TV via the composite connection. Thus my first posting here about a blue screen, no video signal, TV was on.
Status now is after doing a ‘new’ install of RC3, video signal and everything else is back to normal and working fine. No changes were made to the Pi’s connection to the ‘old’ TV.
As an added note, Have a second Pi, up in the living room running Alpha 4 on a modern flat screen TV with HDMI- it is a Pi 2. Waiting for the final release, before doing a clean install on it.
The Pi in the basement is on an old tube monitor.
Both are running SMB and are on the router in WorkGroup, thus the renaming of osmc-basement ala instructions to be found here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/167195/how-to-change-your-raspberry-pi-or-other-linux-devices-hostname/
The living room pi is simply known as osmc to the router.
Once again, thanks for the replies, problem solved by new install.

I assume you have an NTSC TV?
Can you post kodi.log?

Hi, would be more than glad to, however when I try
paste-log /home/osmc/.kodi/temp/kodi.log
tvservice -s
tvservice -m CEA
tvservice -m DMT

I get http://paste.osmc.io/Document exceeds maximum length

A couple of post up you’ll find http://paste.osmc.io/yewetegiru
but as stated there that is not from the install that was giving the problems

As to this:
osmc@osmc-basement:~$ tvservice -s
state 0x40001 [NTSC 4:3], 720x480 @ 60.00Hz, interlaced

It is 100% a PAL TV on a composite connection and is set to PAL in the settings, however That is what is shown in a PuTTy session, every time. ?? 720x576@50i for PAL is not shown.

TV was on for this session and the Confluence skin was on the screen –
However:
osmc@osmc-basement:~$ tvservice -m CEA
Group CEA has 0 modes:
osmc@osmc-basement:~$ tvservice -m DMT
Group DMT has 0 modes:
If you have any more questions, then please do keep in mind
I’m more or less a Windows user and SSH for Linux is not a strong point, however can cut and paste into and out of Putty.

I suggest that you should go to the root of the problem and make some additions to /boot/config.txt (to make these you will need to have root privileges)
You’ll need to set the composite video output to PAL

 sdtv_mode=2

and pick an aspect ratio

sdtv_aspect=1

or 3 if tv is 16:9
That might be enough, or you may need to pick a resolution as well - but I don’t remember how to pick this.
Derek

Hi

Here is what is in this:
core_freq=375
sdtv_mode=2
arm_freq=850
start_x=1
sdtv_aspect=1
disable_overscan=1
gpu_mem_256=112
gpu_mem_512=144
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1

This was opened in WinSCP - internal editor.
Thanks for the reply.
