RPI2 OpenVPN Speeds

Hi guys,

I’m configuring a VPN on my Pi2. With the VPN off the fastest I can get is around 77.80 mbit/s.

With the VPN on, in a location very close to me the fastest speed I can get is around 26 mbit/s.

Is the bottleneck the device itself, as it’s an older model - and a newer device would result in faster speeds? The VPN itself is much quicker when connecting from another device.

Do you have a choice for the encryption type? You could pick something faster (fewer bits of key), and it would still be secure enough, since I suspect you are mostly using a VPN to change your exit IP, not protect against eavesdropping by your ISP.

If your only looking to mask your IP a proxy would do that without a speed hit.
