Screen has started to turn green with 4K films

Tried to watch Dune (2021) 4K this week on a Vero 4K and at the start of the film areas of the screen turn green or have green streaks. I thought at first it was an issue with my encoding from the original disc, but I tried Bad Boys 4K tonight and that is doing it too now as you can see from the attached photo.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

I have tried playing the same 4K films using a Roku stick connected through the same amp and that has no issues with the colour.

Your log doesn’t show an attempt to play a file.

I played a film for about 30 seconds.

Please post mediainfo for the two films you have issues with.

  • is it only at the beginning you see these green streaks?
  • any other 4k films showing this?

Which I couldn’t watch due to the green streaks.

It has been all 4K films that I’ve tried.

Thank you. When you say ‘started to turn green’ you mean it didn’t happen before? When did it start?

The last 4K film I played was on the 1st April and that played without issue. Last week was the first time I’d tried to play a 4K film since then and at first I thought it was due to how I’d encoded the film, but then when I tried older films that had worked before I realised there was an issue.

The kernel you are on is pretty much EOL now. There’s a test thread for a newer kernel which @sam_nazarko could invite you to and it would be useful to know if that fixes things.

Nothing wrong there. Can you try just updating your system again?

Another thing to try: swapping HDMI cables and/or cleaning HDMI plugs and sockets with contact cleaner. Also see if taking your AVR out of the chain changes things.

And you could try using a whitelist to stop Vero outputting 4k and force it to 1080p which would mean HDMI isn’t working so hard - just as a test.

Then I’m out of ideas …

I’ve switched over to my other Vero 4K box on the same TV and the green streaks aren’t there. So this must be something to with the original box.

Same HDMI cables/AVR input/TV input? And for the record (it shouldn’t make any difference) is that Vero also the original version or a 4k +?

Plugged it back into the same HDMI cable, only difference is that I’m using WiFi instead of cable connection.
Vero 4K same as the other box.

If you can wait a bit, the next OSMC release should be out ‘real soon now’. Otherwise, I would suggest a back-up and re-imaging.

I suppose if I enabled debug logging on the box that works, I could compare the 2 logs to see if there’s anything that’s different?
