I still have one SDR TV in service and OSMC used to be very good at HDR-to-SDR conversion, but I found that this deteriorated at some point during development of the DV build. I updated the Vero connected to the SDR TV without thinking and have noticed how flat and dark the SDR conversion is. In search of a quick solution, I’m thinking about reinstalling an older version of OSMC, but the Vero in question is also my TVHeadend server, and just want to check if there is anything I need to do to protect that installation as I really want to avoid having to reinstall that as well. What happens if you force SDR in Settings->Player?
A log might give us some pointers.
After further testing I’m wondering if this is HDR10+ related. The titles I happened to check were Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead sourced from disc. They were quite dark and washed out. I then checked some titles with regular HDR10 layers and results were satisfactory. But that could be a coincidence I guess. Here is a log where I’m playing the aforementioned HDR10+ titles.
