Simultaneous multichannel pass-through on HDMI and 2.0 on SPDIF

Hi,

I’ve just received my unit and so far so good except this question I haven’t found an answer for.
Is it possible to have the raw multichannel audio track output to HDMI while having a 2.0 encode sent to SPDIF for e.g. 2.0 speakers?
So far I couldn’t find a way to have both without switching settings.

Kind regards.

Have you tried it? You should get FL and FR from SPDIF when playing multi-channel PCM. But you will lose FC so won’t get speech if you set the channel layout to one with a front centre channel.

Yes, that’s what I mean, I have to set a 7.1 layout to get proper multichannel on HDMI but then although I get sound on SPDIF I don’t get speech.
What I’m looking for is multichannel on HDMI and that properly downmixed to stereo on SPDIF.
Is that doable?

Not trivially, given Kodi’s AudioEngine architecture, unfortunately.

Do you need both at the same time?
Otherwise you could try and develop a remote shortcut to toggle the audio settings depending on the scenario.

Sam

I see. I don’t need both at the same time, but I do that switch quite often, so it’s a little bit of a struggle.
But, apparently, this answers exactly my need! Audio Profiles - Easy switch between different audio settings
Thanks for the help.
