Strange ZIP issue

Greetings all -

I’ve tried installing an add-on repository and a regular add-on. Each time, OSMC sees the zip file, but the icon looks like a regular folder. when I select it, it goes into the zip and displays the folder inside. I never get the option to actually use the zip and the OK button stays ghosted. Other files like .JPGs are treated as files and the OK button un-ghosts. Is there some kind of trick to tell OSMC to treat a zip file like a zip file and not a folder?

Thanks!

Just to check, you are using the “Install from Zipfile” option in Add-ons, not trying to open the zip file from the file manager ?

Correct. It treats the zip like its a folder. I even went into the appearance settings and disabled the “navigate archives” option which didn’t do anything.

Solved! When accessing the files through a UPNP/DLNA connection, the zip files were treated as folders for some reason. When I used file manager to transfer the files to OSMC, they got converted from zips to actual folders.I had to install the FTP client and transfer the files that way. Not sure if the issue was the DLNA server on Win10 or the DLNA client on OSMC.

Hardly surprising. Upnp is for media not code such as addon data…

For installing addons from a zip file file they must either be on the local file system or accessible via the file manager interface.
