[Deprecated] [TESTING] Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP)

June '16 update is breaking my usb sound output.

I’updated to the latest june '16 update, since then, der is no audio output. I’m using a USB soundcard.

when uninstalling A2DP like this:

sudo dpkg -r pulseaudio-module-bluetooth
sudo dpkg -r pulseaudio-module-zeroconf
sudo dpkg -r pulseaudio
sudo dpkg -P pulseaudio
sudo dpkg -r a2dp-app-osmc

it is working again, but without A2DP

after reinstalling A2DP there is still no sound output, only without pulse audio it’s working

any ideas what can be broken?

I guess it will be something like this …

xbmc.executeJSONRPC(‘{“jsonrpc”:“2.0”,“method”:“Settings.SetSettingValue”, “params”:{“setting”:“audiooutput.audiodevice”,“value”:“%s”},“id”:1}’ % dev)

We’ve not changed anything with Bluetooth audio in this update

From this post:

I guess it will be something like this:

curl -v -H “Content-type: application/json” -X POST -d ‘{“jsonrpc”:“2.0”,“method”:“Settings.SetSettingValue”, “params”:{“setting”:“audiooutput.audiodevice”,“value”:“ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1”},“id”:1}’ http://localhost:9191/jsonrpc

ok, after reinstalling like shown above with the USB soundcard attached, sound output is working with A2DP installed.
But now there is no audio output from streamed music (streamed from iPhone)

I’ll keep on searching…

Nope. It doesn’t seem to be a config setting that can be changed with JSON-RPC :frowning:

Hi anbodearg again

Do you have to adjust the audio offset to about 300ms on your setup. Mine has roughly 300ms delay on my soundbar using BT dongle.

I’m using audio streaming radio from another OSMC. If there is a delay, it is not noticeable.
I have tried a couple of YouTube videos and the audio and video seem pretty much in sync.

update:

Everything working (more stable) now with new RPI 5.1V/2.5A psu, onboard WiFi, BT dongle.
I powered-on BT speaker this morning, and audio was working

This means that the BT pairing, BT connection, Audio Output to BT speaker settings are persisting,
and not getting forgotten.

At 6am every morning, OSMC is configured to reboot (cron). I think this is making it a bit more reliable.
I still seem to need the odd reboot, but definitely not as often as before (it was almost every single day).

Thanks.
Best regards,
Niall.

Update:

BT audio streaming working most of the time.
Sometimes I need to reboot RPI3, and reset the Audio output.
The BT pairing seems to be much more reliable than before.

Sometimes I need to power-off RPI3 in order to get the BT audio streaming to work again.
Maybe 1 day every 7 days.
Not as often as previously - but still OSMC is losing the Audio output every few days.

Thanks.
Best regards,
Niall.

In three months, this thread will be a year old. Are we actually still “TESTING” this functionality?

Yep

I’d say yes. There’s quite a lot of work to do before this can be considered even beta quality. If you have some patches or suggestions, let me know.

Works right out of the box, thank you!!!

I have successfully installed using your method and I can able to pair my speakers. But when I restarted my pi 3 (OSMC) I am not getting any sound on my blue tooth speaker even it says my speakers are connected. I am using latest OSMC. And also sometime I can play mp3 fine but when I play movie, I cant get voice thro’ my speakers.

What should I do to resolve my issue?

ps: I just reinstall OSMC and did the same process, now I can connect to bluetooth speakers but no sound even after selecting Alsa…sound from the OSMC menu.

Bluetooth audio is not routed through ALSA, it goes through PA.

update:
Worked solidly for 5 days. Streaming audio (from another OSMC) to
Bose BT speaker - which powers-off at night. I turn it on again in the morning.

But when it stops working, I need to power-off RPI, and then sometimes reboot again.
The BT connect/pairing seems to persist.
But the Audio output gets forgotten, and it takes a few goes to get it working again.

Once it’s working, it keeps going for a few days.
A big improvement from around a year ago.
But still something not right.

Are there any errors or logs which I could provide?

Thanks.
Best regards,
Niall.

That’s why it’s still in testing. There are still a few things for us to improve.

On Pi, I think the sink is getting locked. Do the following commands restore audio without requiring a system reboot?

sudo rmmod snd-bcm2835
sudo modprobe snd-bcm2835

I know that @fzinken had this problem too. I will discuss this with him when I get back and see if I can work out why the sink is getting locked.

Logs when you have problems playing back would be helpful.

Sam

Sure, Sam. I’ll try that next time it happens, and I’ll report back.

When the audio drops, and I try restore it by changing to HDMI, and back again to BT (that used to work), I guess there should be an error somewhere…? (dmesg, maybe?)

Thanks.
Best regards,
Niall.

Tried:
osmc@Kitchen:~$ sudo rmmod snd-bcm2835
