Tethering - is there a way to disable passphrase?

I have tethering enabled through the GUI. I am using the default SSID and passphrase.

My Samsung Galaxy connects fine. A Windows 10 laptop and iPad do not. Both see the SSID, request the passphrase then don’t connect.
Windows just says “Can’t connect to this network” and the iPad claims the passphrase is incorrect (even though it really is).

So, is there a way to either:

  1. Disable passphrase - an open network
    or
  2. Enable a different security mode then what is presently used.

Is there a wpa_supplicant.conf file I can try. I looked around and can’t find one (yet wpa_supplicant is running).

Thanks

HI,

This is not possible I’m afraid, we use Connman to deal with all our network connection related things (including tethering) and that does not support hotspots without a password

I have found this post that was posted to the Connman mailing list in 2012 that included a patch to enable creation of a ‘open’ tethered network but it looks like the idea was rejected by the Connman developers https://lists.connman.net/pipermail/connman/2012-December/012493.html

Thanks for the quick reply. I read the post - pretty sure it’s not going to ever happen

Can’t say I blame the developers. I know the risks and this is for testing.

For now I will continue to debug why tethering works with my phone but not iPad or Windows tablet.
I am pretty sure it is in the passphrase area.

Thanks again
