Unexpected behaviour when naviating through key strokes from video to audio

There is a use case I don’t quite understand:

I am playing a video file from a USB hard disk. I press tab or ESC. Then I navigate to a music file (Stored on the micro SD card osmc is on.) using the cursor keys. I press enter to play the desired audio file. All that happens is that the next file in the list is highlighted. The video plays on. Pressing TAB again takes me back to the video screen,

I would expect the video to stop playing and the audio file to be played.

I am using the latest osmc on a raspberry pi 2.

If you need any more info please ask me.

If this is not the right place to ask this question please advice me where to go.

Hi,

Could be the permissions on the file, kodi can’t read it, then goes on to the next.

Hi, tanks for th equick reply.

If it were a permissions issue, I would assume that Kodi would always have problems opening the audio files. However: if I start OSMC and navigate to the audio files before anything else OSMC will play them without fail.

But when I first play a video file and then navigate to the audio files the behaviour I described occurs.

But perhaps I am wrong in my assumption?

I think you’ll find that with audio files the default action when selecting an audio file when something is already playing is “enqueue” - eg add that file to the current queue of audio files to play. This is in contrast to the behaviour when playing video where you would not normally want to queue video files.

It may be be possible to change this default behaviour in System->Settings->Music->Playback with the option “Queue songs on selection”.

Just tested your suggestion, and yes, you are right. Thanks!
I adjusted the settings and now it works as I think it should

I never knew about this “enqueueing”. Perhaps, it would be helpful for a simple user like me, to have a message like “file added to current playlist” appear when pressing enter and having the settings on
“enqueue”.

Bottom line: OSMC just got even better. Thank you!
