USB DAC soundcard not working on OSMC RC3 rpi2

Hi

I reinstalled OSMC as I had some issues with freezing media but I can’t for the life of me get any sound out of the the USB soundcard (Soundblaster X-Fi HD). I remember I always had struggles with it, I installed alsa utils but I can’t open alsamixer due to the error: cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

Hopefully someone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction so I can get OSMC back up and running.

OK I’ve managed to get alsamixer working and my sound card set as default and un-muted, I’m a member of the audio group but still no sound…

Have you even looked at the wiki?

Yes and that told me nothing, got it working by changing the soundcard to default

Hi,

Our Wiki can be a bit lacking but fortunately it’s quite easy to edit. If you’ve learned something that may help other users, feel free to pass that info down

Just in testing for myself a moment ago…

I was able to plug in my USB soundcard, then issue sudo systemctl restart mediacenter
and I was then able to go right to Settings>System>Audio and be prompted like so
