USB hub questions

I am currently using a Raspberry PI 2 as a basic HTPC. I’ll be replacing it with a Vero 4k+ when it arrives.

The change from 4 USB ports to 2 means that I’ll have to use a powered USB hub. I use the ports for an external hard drive, a remote control and a wifi dongle - with the fourth one occasionally used for a keyboard.

I want a powered hub and I know there is one on the OSMC store but I am in NZ and ideally want one with a NZ power socket. There is an mbeat 7 socket USB hub with switches which seems to date back a few years - anyone have any experience with it?

A bit of a noob question - are there any devices which won’t work via a powered hub eg. does the wifi dongle have to be in one of the Vero USB ports or will it work through the hub?

While you still would require the hub for the remaining devices the wifi dongle you wouldn’t need anymore as Vero 4k+ has built in wifi

I would assume @sam_nazarko ships the powered USB hub similar as the Vero with the right power supply for your country (but would wait for confirmation)

If you have a proper hub all devices should work via a hub same as direct connect.

We don’t ship AU / NZ adapters for the hub unfortunately.

Ok just learned that it is not the case. So @Caketiger suggest to get a quality hub down in NZ

Thanks guys. So main question remains - anyone used the mbeat 7 socket USB hub? I like the idea that each socket has a switch.

I recently purchased the powered Mbeat 7 socket USB hub for computer use but after a frustrating few weeks I returned it for a refund. I found inserted usb sticks would sometimes fail to register (these worked fine when not using the hub). Copying from one usb stick to another ( and usb stick to computer) using the hub was problematic due to intermittent loss of connection resulting in data loss. I tried other ports on the hub and my computer but the problem persisted. I tried the Mbeat in another computer, but the problems remained. I strongly suspect I had a faulty Mbeat, but I arranged for a refund and did not replace it.

Thanks Peter - yours is not the only dodgy review I’ve seen of the mbeat product so I’ll give it a miss. I’ll keep hunting. I’m slightly limited because I want one with a NZ power supply so can’t go to the likes of Amazon or Ebay.

i’m using a d-link one, mine is just 4 ports but i can’t find that one on au site
