USB3 HDDs Not Auto-mounting Anymore After March Update

Hi All,

I’ve discovered another new issue since the March update. My media library is stored on two large, powered USB3 HDDs (Films and TV), and a smaller ‘pocket’/unpowered drive that has some overflow movies on it plugged into one of the larger drives. The whole thing is daisy-chained together and plugged into the single USB3 socket on the Vero. Whenever I add new content, I of course Safely Unmount each of the directories and their corresponding parts, let them spin down and then hook them up to my laptop to add new media. Once I reconnect the USB cable between the Vero and the drive chain they will all automatically reappear within 10-15 seconds so I can scan new content to the library.

Since the update, I’ve added a few new items to both the TV and Film HDD, and upon reconnecting the ‘array’ only the small, unpowered HDD reappears in the listing. The two large, powered drives do not autoconnect, and I’m having to disconnect the power supply sometimes twice or more to get them to be recognised by the Vero, which obviously isn’t good for them.

I’ve never once had this sort of issue before, it’s always been vert responsive and predictable.

Logs below. In them, I start with the drives all connected, then safely unmount each and wait a few seconds before plugging them back in (this is all much more difficult to do as the Vero remote currently isn’t working!)

Is it possible at this point to downgrade back to the October version? I can’t play back DV content until I get a new screen anyway, and this update seems to have quite a few issues.

Hang on - how many drives, how are they powered from the USB3 port?

The Vero V will give you 900mAH on the USB3 port. That is OK to power one drive at the most.

You can reinstall an older version of OSMC from Download - OSMC but multiple drives on one port unpowered are going to give you big problems. It could cause strain and damage the USB interface.

A large WD powered (plugged in) drive is hooked directly into Vero. The drive itself contains a USB3 hub with two sockets, to which one other powered/plugged in drive is connected. Another small, non-powered drive is hooked into the WD drive. So, in reality, nothing is being powered directly by the Vero’s USB3 port.

The whole setup has worked perfectly since I first set it up in 2018 when I bought a Vero 4K+, all the way up until early Monday morning when I installed the March update.

Thanks for the link, I will get the prior version installed.

Does the WD drive guarantee that it can power additional connected drives?
Power supplies degrade over time (including the WD PSU).

From your logs I can see drives like the Toshiba attached, but they disconnect due to IO errors.
