This problem has occured some time the last months, it has been working flawlessly previously

Possibly related to issue with smb shares, that came apparent after the june update. Please try this and see if makes any difference please:

June update cannot now play M2TS files

Can you set settings>services>SMB client> to v3 for both min and max and try again. If all your files stop playing after that either enable SMBv3 in your NAS or enable the “mitigate MTU issues with SMBv2” option in the same section.
