Vero V: Help on External Hard Drive Set Up

Hi, I have been trying to get my Vero V set up, it did work pretty well but then I needed to re-install OSMC on it after I ran in to an issue with duplicate files showing. I re-installed for a factory reset and then using all the right naming conventions, I have an external 16TB WD elements hard drive attached with its own power supply but when I go to add files on ‘TV Shows’ I get a couple of abstract titles with no files and no of my TV shows pulling through. Not sure what I’m doing wrong here as it worked fine before the reset - is it an issue with the hard drive source? It’s driving me mad if anyone has any guidance please?

Thanks

did you set the content for the folder?

Yes - when I go to add files in the library and choose root system, I then select TV Shows and click ok then select the TV show option for scrapping then it does a quick shuffle for some random titles and then nothing else at all pulls through

yes, my Vero does the same. However, I use “local content” so there is no scraping from Kodi, but the Vero only see’s 1 TV series in that folder ans i have 4 TV series.

Yeah it’s driving me mad - especially when it all pulled through once and then because used the re-install for OSMC it’s then stopped working the same way. Hoping Sam can maybe help on it or something as I’m really stuck now

I’m going to venture a guess that what happened originally with your library is that a glitch happened with the mount point which changed its name and you had your source set to “root” or /media instead of /media/[mountpoint]. If you wind up with this issue in the future it should be easily fixable by just powering it up without the drive plugged in and then once Kodi is up plug the drive back in. This should restore the mount point to what it originally was. If you had already run a library update and had gotten duplicates as a result then you should just be able to run a clean library to have these automatically removed.

As for where your at currently you would really need to post some logs so someone could see what exactly you have done. As you don’t really have anything to lose though, it may just be as well to delete your source and start over. If you go to the videos>files section and delete your current source it should ask you if you want to remove the library items. Do that. Your library should be empty at this point. Now tell it to make a new source and point it to root, then media, then to whatever your mount point for that drive is in that folder. When it asks you to setup the content set the scraper to TMDB as the local info scraper can sometimes be a bit problematic. With the scraper set to TMDB it will still read local nfo files if present and use the information contained in them. It will only go looking for info at TMDB if a nfo and artwork is not found. See how you get on with that.

One final note. Current versions of Kodi, by default, will read resume/play status from nfo files. If your nfo files have a entire series set as already played, and you have your library view set to unwatched only, then these “watched” series will not show up. This isn’t probably what is going on in your case, but it is something to be aware of and if you have “missing” shows it is worth looking in the slideout menu to see if the filter is on.

Thanks for coming back to me, when I try to go in and delete source I get no option to “remove source”? (See screenshot) also enable the debugging on the logging option and did a reboot then started to get a CEC adapter error message now too? (See screenshot)

I have the logging URL: https://paste.osmc.tv/jococokiwo

Appreciate the help as really want to just get it back to how it was originally working.

That screenshot is showing the slideout menu. What you need is the context menu which should pop with a short press of the menu button (the three lines on the OSMC remote, If using CEC some TV’s may not be able to access this function with a stock configuration).

Also, I didn’t see that drive in your logs. If you had unplugged it while you deleted sources (which isn’t needed) then make sure you remember to plug it back in. If it is still plugged in then there is a larger issue at play.

On a somewhat related note, be aware that Kodi is quite picky about not mixing file paths of different content types. Setting your source location to the root of a drive is perfectly fine IF that drive only contains, and will only contain in the future, one type of media (movies, series, music, music videos). If an individual drive will be run with mixed media then there should be a folder created on the root just for the media type it contains and the Kodi source should point to that. In your case you might create a folder called “series” and move your shows into that and then your source would be set to `/media/elements/series`

Thanks, the Expansion one I unplugged as I tested that one because was having issues with my Elements but got same outcome so it was unplugged when I took the screen shot and logging detail.

When I press the 3 lines I only get that option not the one you mentioned - is it because of the settings level, I have it on expert but I can get the option to come up.

should I do the reboot again of OSMC from flash drive to start again?

I will try the naming change to series from tv shows to see if that works better. I do have it with only movies in that folder and folders for ally series within TV shows so a bit confused with it.

thanks for helping with this

I think your just in the wrong screen. I don’t think reinstalling again is really necessary. If you wanted to anyway you would need to use the OSMC installation software to rewrite that thumb drive again. It neuters itself after you install from it. As for renaming your base folder from “tv shows” to “series“, this is completely unnecessary. Kodi gives zero regard to what the sources base folders name are.

You can also get there from Kodi’s settings screen, but this will take you to where you need to be…

You might also want to pop over to Kodi’s wiki which has guides and info for most aspects of Kodi…

I managed to remove the resource (thanks) I was doing it wrong as suggested. I have then gone to add the library again but still having same problems - only pulling through a bizarre show name I’ve never heard of?!

I did the logs just in case https://paste.osmc.tv/edukegimal

Your screenshot looks good, but those logs are not terribly insightful as they were taken before you added the source and for your final issue they would need to be grabbed with debug logging enabled before a library update and uploaded after.

Based upon you saying that there was only one of three shows scrapped, and the one that was scrapped being incorrectly identified, I’m guessing that the nfo files you say you have are not valid for some reason or another and that your organization and/or file naming of these three series are not sufficient for Kodi to correctly scrape them.

The nfo you referred to, can you elaborate on where it came from? Was this from a Kodi library library export, and if so, whas it a single or multiple file export? If the former that only works with importing a whole library. Was it/they generated from a media manager app? Can you show the content of the “TV Shows” folder and one of the subfolder so we may gain insight into how your files are layed out and named.

Ah ok, added the debugging - the below are the logs before and after I try to add in the library.

Before: https://paste.osmc.tv/erovecuzod

After: https://paste.osmc.tv/teraritoga

The screens below show all my TV shows in their folders - they then all have correct naming for seasons and episodes but don’t get pulled through.

In addition, the other screen is the random show I’ve never heard of and the episodes are actually all Harry Potter movies pulled from the Movies folder rather than the TV shows folder. It’s confusing as these folders worked in the past before I reset.

Perhaps I was not clear enough previously….

    <video>
        <default pathversion="1"></default>
        <source>
            <name>Auto-mounted drives</name>
            <path pathversion="1">/media/</path>
            <allowsharing>true</allowsharing>
        </source>
        <source>
            <name>Elements</name>
            <path pathversion="1">/media/Elements/</path>
            <allowsharing>true</allowsharing>
        </source>
    </video>

There should NOT be a Kodi source set to just“/media/Elements/”.It should be something like one source pointed to “/media/Elements/TV Shows/”with its content type set to series and the scraper set to TMDB TV Shows, and another set to “/media/Elements/Moves/”with its content type set to movies and the scraper set to TMDB. When adding the source you need to navigate into the source root folder before hitting OK. What you have inadvertently done is point your source at both movies and TV shows and Kodi does not allow for that. You should remove that source and click yes when it asks if you want to remove the items from the library, then start over after making sure there isn’t anything left behind in the library view (if there is, just delete it there.)

EDIT: Corrected a bit as the source for /media is supposed to be there as part of the auto mount system. That one is a bit different as it does not have a scraper associated with it so library updates don’t get run on that source location.

Ah that’s it - I was doing it from outside the folder! What an idiot! Thank you so much for your patience and help, I’m all set up now and using my Apple TV infuse app connected to my Vero!

massive thanks!

Don’t feel bad, many folks do the same thing. I have when I first started with Kodi. Live and learn.
