Vero V not discoverable via UPnP (Vero 4K works fine)

Hi,

I’ve recently opened and set up my new Vero V. Until now, I’ve been using a Vero 4K for many years and it has been extremely reliable.

My setup:

  • Vero 4K shares its music library via UPnP.

  • I use this with my network streamer through the Focal & Naim app.

  • This works perfectly with the Vero 4K.

After setting up the Vero V, I enabled the same UPnP settings, but:

  • The Vero V is not visible in the Focal & Naim app.

  • It is also not visible on a Windows laptop under Network.

  • So the issue is not specific to the Naim app.

What I’ve verified / tested

  1. Both devices are on the same subnet (192.168.1.x).

  2. Multicast is enabled and working.

  3. ip route and ip maddr show confirm the Vero V joins 239.255.255.250.

  4. Firewall (iptables) is completely open (all policies ACCEPT).

  5. Kodi UPnP settings enabled:

    • “Share my libraries”

    • Remote control options enabled

  6. Kodi log shows:

    • “Starting UPnP…”

    • “Starting Device…”

    • UPnP controller and renderer starting

    • HTTP servers binding to 0.0.0.0

  7. I’ve done fresh Kodi profile test:

    • Stopped mediacenter

    • Renamed ~/.kodi

    • Restarted

    • Enabled only “Share my libraries”

    • Still not discoverable

  8. Installed tcpdump and monitored UDP 1900:

    • Vero V receives SSDP traffic (from router and Vero 4K)

    • Vero V does not transmit any SSDP NOTIFY packets

    • Vero 4K (192.168.1.6) does transmit correctly

So the Vero V appears to start the Platinum UPnP stack, but it never sends SSDP announcements.

Question

Is there anything structurally different in how UPnP/SSDP is implemented on Vero V compared to Vero 4K?

Could this be a regression or platform-level issue specific to the Vero V build?

I’m happy to provide full logs if needed.

Thanks in advance.

All I can say is my Vero V shows up in Network Locations on Windows (11) and I can also access its library from my TV. It was the same with a Vero 4k.

Logs might help.

Here I do not see Allow remote control via UPNP being enabled. Without I do not see the video multimedia icon for OSMC servers in the Windows(11) explorer below networks.

I used mediamonkey and VLC for tests and have access via UPNP to videos and music with OSMC on RPi4, Vero4k+ and VeroV platforms.

No – can you confirm both devices are on the latest version of Kodi v21.x?

All I can think of (dumb idea) is they share the same hostname.

Sam

After additional configuration changes and new packet captures, behaviour has changed.

Using tcpdump, I can now see Vero V transmitting SSDP multicast packets to 239.255.255.250:1900. In my earlier capture there were no outbound SSDP packets, but that is no longer the case.

Both devices are wired.

Device details:

Vero 4K

  • Hostname: Vero4K

  • Kodi device name: Vero4K

  • Kodi 21.1 (20241003-osmc)

Vero V

  • Hostname: osmc-Vero-V

  • Kodi device name: osmc-Vero-V

  • Kodi 21.3 (20251129-osmc)

There is no hostname or device name collision.

Current behaviour:

  • Vero 4K is consistently visible.

  • Vero V is discoverable in Focal/Naim but intermittently disappears.

  • Vero V does not appear in Windows 11 “Network”.

  • Restarting Kodi restores visibility temporarily.

  • Packet captures suggest Vero V advertises less frequently than Vero 4K.

So the issue appears to have shifted from no SSDP transmission to discovery instability over time.

Please let me know what further diagnostics would help.

Hi,

can you try another UPNP client like VLC?
