My Vero V has been crashing with the sad face very regularly in the last week or 10 days (at least once a day, often quite a bit more than that). I can’t isolate one particular thing that’s caused it, sometimes it’s backing out of an online search, sometimes it’s watching something, sometimes it’s just moving between menu items in the skin.
I’ve no logs because it’s not really reproducible on demand, but is there anything I could start by looking at? I’ve used Arctic Fuse 2 skin forever and it’s no longer being developed so it’s unlikely to be anything there. I use a particular addon that I probably shouldn’t name but it’s widely used and I don’t see complaints elsewhere about it. I have a sneaking suspicion this is widget related, but I don’t know why I think that.
I suppose I’m wondering are there some common sources of such crashes that I could at least start to work through?
There are a few things you can do.
Temporarily change your skin back to something that IS supported and see if the crashes remain or whether they stop.
Disable some apps and see if the crashes remain or whether they stop. If they no longer occur then re-enable things one by one and monitor till you start experiencing crashes again.
Wipe and rebuild your system but only set up one thing at a time and monitor to see if the crashes start.
Additional to what @jb2cool mentioned, if it is really random you might try a different PSU if you have another compatible one laying around (ie it must be the same voltage and polarity). Along the same lines, if you have any high current devices (ie bus powered hard drives, tuners, etc.) you can try unplugging them and see if the crashes stop.
As far as logs and capturing something it should be noted that Kodi keeps both the current session and previous session logs. When Kodi crashes and you upload a log set after it restarts one of these is the previous sessions log that was recording when it crashed.

I had a look at the logs after a crash yesterday and the last thing that happened was a sync of Simkl and an attempt to refresh widgets. I don’t really use Simkl yet, but I set it up after Trakt changed their usage rules and then kinda did nothing with it. Thinking back, the timeline of my current spate of crashes may indeed correspond to my adding Simkl.
Trakt and Simkl might have been competing to trigger a refresh of widgets simultaneously, and perhaps this was causing instability. Either way I’ve stopped the widget refresh part for Simkl (one step at a time) and we’ll see how it goes.
