YouTube crashing

As previous YouTube-related issue topics were from 2015 and 2021 (and builds have advanced since), I think it’s worthwhile to create a new one.

So, YouTube crashes after a while (in the 5 to 20 second mark), where the audio stutters loudly (full volume) and shows a black screen (with sometimes a frame popping up randomly). I’m only using YouTube with the “Trailer” functionality in OSMC.

I’ll see if I can capture and attach a log soon, but I’m curious whether other people are experiencing this yet.

This is a Vero V on the Wifi Stability staging build.

No problem here, i’m also on the Wifi Stability staging build, with the official Youtube addon V7.4.4.

Just watched a bunch of trailers to check, but they all played fine both in FHD and 4K.

Edit: The only problem I have with Youtube, is that when it is set to 4K, it keep swithcing between 4K and FHD, and because of that I have set the resolution to max FHD, to avoid that.

I had the same problem and found a workaround in this bug report: MPEG-DASH stalls with HTTP 403 using ANDROID_VR in 7.4.4 - disabling android_vr fixes playback · Issue #1483 · anxdpanic/plugin.video.youtube · GitHub

In short, edit the file

~/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.youtube/resources/lib/youtube_plugin/youtube/client/player_client.py

and comment out the line
'android_vr'

Thanks @sikjo, I’ll try that out tonight. Otherwise, sorry that I haven’t come round to capture a log.

Can confirm that commenting out ‘android_vr’ in /home/osmc/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.youtube/resources/lib/youtube_plugin/youtube/client/player_client.py

and rebooting has resolved the issue. Apparently android_vr is deprecated.
