The “Deathstars” cost me a bit of data once. Seagate is OK generally, it was just the 3TB series with an exceptionally high failure rate within a year.

I like how us boys can sit around the campfire and rag on each other’s hardware.
IF anyone is still interested in this crappy offer, beware.
Ordered a PiDrive and they sent it without the power adapter. Tried to open a support case with them and they don’t recognize the model. Plus I’ve read some people got theirs with an issue that made the drive look like a 500GB instead of 1TB.
Considering the fact that it’s not much cheaper than any other drive that HAS enclosure and the fact that the wonder cable is a simple USB 3.0 Y-Cable (I’ve been using one for more than a year now…) I’d say this was a ripoff.
Wow, that’s not good. Did you try contacting their support and see what they had to say about it?
Sam
That’s what I said, I was trying to open a case with them but the damn form on the Support page wouldn’t accept the PiDrive model number, I guess it’s a bit special I eventually entered a different model just to get the case opened and I’m waiting for their feedback.
Initially I said to myself, what the heck, missing power adapter is not the end of the world but when you get down to it, a Seagate Backup Plus Slim 1TB is $59 on Amazon plus $7-8 for the Y cable but this one would be enclosed.
So yeah, I wasn’t too bright
I’ve just bought one and all the parts are here. Have you tried to contact wdlabsassistant@wdc.com ? Probably they can help you.
I contacted them, they’ve sent the missing part so support is OK with them. I still believe it wasn’t a very good deal, I could have gotten a similar drive with enclosure and a powered USB hub that could have served as a power source for both the Pi and the drive; plus other accessories if/when needed.
