Playing MPG2 .vob files with OSMC in raspberry pi 2

I want to note that I had the same problem come up again without any hard shutdowns.
Does anyone have this setup and play .vob files regularly without problem:
Raspberry Pi 2
Hifiberry digi+
osmc

Beyond the debug mode and the log files, how to proceed on debugging. Is there anything like enabling stacktrace on failure to playback…

I assume MMAL hardware acceleration would also require the MPG2 license keys. Is that right?

Yes, omxplayer and MMAL both use the GPU hardware decoder which needs a licence.
If you don’t have a licence it will fall back to software decode.
