Please, treat seriously your users

I apologise for having used the term “false advertising”. I never meant for it to come across that way at all - bad choice of words really.

We all know what a brilliant job you @sam_nazarko and the team do to keep this project going and making it as awesome as it is.

@cansa, that is my point exactly.

Why is it so difficult for the team to understand… to users, a date is a date
It’s not a placeholder.

It’s not a spacial area in a graphical layout. It’s a point in time, and when a date is used in a statement it builds a level of expectation.

When that date comes and goes, expectation turns into frustration and anxiety.

Take it with a grain of salt, and at the very least, something along the lines of “I’m sorry but…” would go a long way at this point.

The only users that think a placeholder is a release date are the users that did not read the update.

I would be interested in your methods of making people read things.

Please take care to not misread what I’m saying. Myself, I am very happy with the current Alpha 4 that I have up and running seamlessly on 3 TV’s in my house, streaming effortlessly off of one NAS.

I am absolutely looking forward to what’s coming in the next few days (or so we expect)…

Mostly I’m just trying to communicate clearly the sentiment from the users side of the aisle.

Again, a date is not a placeholder. A placeholder is lorem ipsum or an empty graphic or a div… a date is a very real point in time.

My methods of making people read things? I already outlined my thoughts in the post you’re taking exception to. But, just to humor you, I’ll restate it tacitly.

It’s not about making people read things. It’s about giving people things to read that aren’t going to set them up for disappointment. When you set a date, you’re setting an expectation. If you miss that date, you turn expectation into disappointment.

In simpler terms:
Don’t announce a date until you are certain you can achieve it.

Well said @bpheg. Spot on!

No, you screwed up, whined about something you didnt comprehend, and are now dissembling in a vain hope that something you will babble will, by some grace of god, not be stupid and miraculously dig yourself out of the well of stupid you have gotten yourself into.

It was obvious to every intelligent adult that the date wasnt a release date.

Nothing was announced.

Stop digging.

Is it not a better idea to move/cancel a deadline than to release a buggy, user complaining, multi-bawww thread release?

@Everyone who is crying in this thread about “being let down” you need to wind your neck in.

The only thing you are achieving is making yourself look like a spoiled brat who is full of your own self-entitlement.

No promises have been made, none what-so-ever.

Things change, get over it.

I think I speak for everyone in this post when I just say you are a pathetic excuse of a person.

if you can’t get a date right how can you get the software right?

i will just use raspbian now and build my own kodi for it.

everyone else do the same!!! ■■■■ this ■■■■■■■■, first he makes us use osmc, not raspbmc which was fine and had a better developer in my opinion, now he’s delaying the release so we buy his stupid vero.

C’mon - that really is totally uncalled for.

Nice! Very subtle trolling.

The filesystems the other user has pointed out are not build filesystems, but filesystems for the target device themselves.

One thing I’m happier about is the build architecture is a lot more open with OSMC. This means that you can now even build the toolchains (which is what we previously shipped in a tarball) yourself. Of course this isn’t necessary, and you can grab an OSMC toolchain.

In May we plan to release full technical documentation as well as some supplemental tools around our applications store. For now, you will notice that simply adding

deb http://apt.osmc.tv jessie main

and using a Ubuntu 14.04 (or later) or Debian Wheezy (or later) installation is enough to build OSMC completely. Simply clone OSMC from [GitHub][1] and you’ll be able to build all of OSMC. We’ve gone from shipping full toolchains which required regular updates (i.e. the raspbmc buildfs which was changed a lot), to shipping very minimal toolchains. Dependency resolution is then done at build time using isolated chroots to prevent contamination from the host.

In short: it’s all pretty neat.

The Vero product is commercial, but it should not be confused with the open source OSMC side (they are two separate entities). Future development of OSMC is sponsored by the Vero project, but the OSMC project is committed to supporting a variety of platforms.

Yes dedicating resources to PR is important, but I know that a good product will speak for itself a lot better than anything I could write. We can market OSMC excellently: but unless we have the software to prove our claims, there’s little point. Striking a good balance is key.

This is silly. Calm down and come back when the software’s ready.

I’m not going to reply to this thread any more as what has needed to be said has already been said. Please keep in mind that many of you are eager for this release, and yet there only seems to be a very small number of dissatisfied users. I am sure that the silent majority appreciate that things take time and are waiting patiently.

With blackjack and hookers?

Some people really need to calm down by the look at this thread!
And then I don’t only mean the ‘users’ but some ‘mods’ as well …

Behave and stop pointing at people :expressionless:

lol well done sam

It depends for whom is it well done. Now the purity of the message is distorted more, instead of clearing situation. Just look at this topics - so many voices indicates that things matter. Anyway… it was not my intention to start quarrel when I start this topic.
I wish all the best for everybody, and specially to all of coders working hard for osmc.

Will the “update” path work from these builds? I never realized that site was there before reading this thread! cool!

No. From Alpha4, re-image will be required. It is quite possible that this will be the last time but, no guarantees will be made until final is released.
